rally is pretty cool but i think there are to many variables also there is to much technology these days Ilike old school rallying like Baja
-
f1 = drivers racing against a track and other drivers
nascar = drivers against drivers

Personally I love it, NASCAR as well. Since we live about 6 miles from Long Beach we get to the Grand Prix yearly. The Indy 500 this years was great, I thought Danica Patrick was gonna kick that dudes ass before security head her off.

How is she overrated? She's won, placed in the top 5 or 10 (can't remember) last year at Indy and is hot!

Danica races in the IRL not F1

When a female football player because the face of the NFL, you can bet that the NFL will also become a joke...
Its been tried in golf(PGA) and the those guys showed just why a female doesn't belong in the mens division...
Its a shame that the men of Formula 1 can't do the same in there "sport"...
-
auto racing is not a sport
Hahaha Michael Schumacher was one of the greatest athletes ever and by far the richest.

I agree I don't really like her
-
F1 lost its apeal when Michael and Ferrari dominated for to long, basically the sport was for second place.
F1 changed the rules over and over and just made the sport worse to watch.
What they are doing now it getting it back on track.
-

I know what you mean.
I have a few rally dvds from the old days.

They added races in China and Dubai with India and Singapore coming soon

what are you rolling your eyes at?
you have to admit it takes a high level of fitness to drive a formula 1 car.

Yeh i know. My uncle use to race cars here in Aus (not formula 1or anything, just Mazda rx-7), and he always had to be in really good shape. Can get crazy hot in the cabin, paticularly here during a summer time race.

F1 racers pull 5gs they gotta be in shape

The facts about F1 driver's fitness
Most people think that, Motor sport drivers especially formula 1 drivers, just sit in the car, but their fitness level is as good as a marathon runner, which will go into depth later. Rugby players are big, especially the front row, so many people do not think they have to fit just heavy enough to hold back the scrum.
The components formula 1-driver needs are Strength, Speed, Suppleness, Stamina and Spirit.
Strength is important in a driver's fitness has a drivers strength is, "the max force that can exert against resistance" (Dr. Jutley, 2003). A drivers head and helmet weighs about 6kg, "add about 4g, as experienced in a grand prix, the neck has to support 24kg" ([WWW], Channel 4 feature- F1 fitness, 2004). A race usually lasts between 50-70 laps with 12 corners a lap, In heat and humidity, that can drain away most of a drivers energy. Most corners of a track are right handers, but the Interlagos track in Brazil, it is mainly left handers, so drivers will have to concentrate in strengthening their neck, during the run up to the race, some drivers will add extra padding in their helmet, to help support the neck.
Stamina, also known as aerobic endurance, is important as, "an athlete can do a strenuous activity for any length of time" (Dr. Jutley, 2003). According to Dr. Ceccarelli (2004), a formula 1 driver can maintain his heart rate between 150-170 bpm for 1 hour and 45 minutes (a typical length of a grand prix), he can maintain his heart rate for so long is because of their concentration level and the huge amount of adrenaline being produced in the body. ([WWW] Channel 4, 2004).
Cycling is a very common activity for formula 1 drivers. Drivers like Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya prefer outdoors training rather than in a gym. Schumacher, living in Switzerland, likes to train for 2-3 hours every day (during off-season), cycling at an altitude of 1,000- 2,000 metres, which helps to increase the oxygen intake (Sport.de, 2006).
Suppleness, also known as Flexibilty, is, "the range of movement you have in your joints and the ease with which you can bend without causing damage to muscles, tendons and ligament" (Dr. Jutley, 2003). Suppleness in the neck, back, shoulders and arms are important in Formula 1, as these are the parts that will be used most during the race especially in the corners. As mentioned above the neck has a lot of force on it during the race, having flexibility will help prevent injury during an impact or crash and if an injury is sustained, it shorten the recovery time.
Speed, is not only important on the track during race, but also the drivers reaction speed/time is important. A formula 1 car goes form 0 to 100 mph in 5.4 seconds. In that time, a lot can happen. A driver needs to react quickly to avoid serious incident. "A faster reaction time to the lights on the starting grid of a track race will determine who gets to the first corner in the lead" (Dr. Jutley, 2003).
Spirit, is a, "connection between the state of mind and performance of a competitor" (Dr. Jutley, 2003). In motorsport nowadays, drivers have similar cars, fitness levels and skills, so only the best have a good state of mine and focussed before a race. The state of mind is also called being in the zone'. Before a race, a driver sits in his car, you can see the concentration on their face and are going through the track and the corners in their mind. Ex- formula 1 Damon Hill was well known for doing this.

I wish they still did Nurbergring cause it's such a beautiful track but I can understand why they don't.

No female has ever raced F1
There have been five women drivers in Formula 1, the last being Giovanna Amati who raced for Brabham in 1992.

I have been following F1 racing since 97
nothing is like the experience I had the pleasure of attending it twice in Bahrain
the experience is indescribable for a racing fanatic
the sound of the rngine and the cars passig by
no matter how far you sit you will hurt your ear drums
and they always have entertainment segment in at eth Expo
like musician, dancers, car shows, merchandise
and a lot of girls that actually dont know what is going on but just like to be there for the event
Next year there will be a race in Abu Dhabi and I guess it is a night race
There is a yearly race in the States
but Indy and, NASCAR and drag racing seem to be more popular there
even drifting is catching up there and a lot of top Japanese drifter (like Tsuchiya & Yamada) said that American will soon be at the level of Japanese in the drifting skills
Here are some pix from the event this year .. I will post some of the car pix once I get back home
they are in my laptop
-
All other racing series are jokes compared to F1. All you need to do is to look at the budgets and you'll see where the best technology and the best racers are.

The US GP has been gone for 2yrs now and no plans to bring it back as of yet. The Dubai gp is awesome, they basically built a track with a small city for everyone in the middle of the desert. My dream is to go to Monaco or Spa.
-

You need at least 200~300mil to start an F1 team only 30~40mil for nascar and Ferrari's team is worth 1billion
-
.
-
There is no GP in Dubai
they have a Circuit but it does not match the F1 specs
but can be modified to do so
the only one in the Persian gulf area at the moment is Bahrain
and United Arab Emirates (in Abu Dhabi not Dubai) next year
Monaco is definitely a different experience considering they dont have an actual track and hold the race in the City roads
some take the portable bleachers and some pay to stay in residents houses to have a better view
the tunnel exit new the boat stop terminal is the best view and the tunnel is the toughest part of the race with the sudden change of lighting and the need to adjust your eyes accordingly which alone needs a master plan
If I am not mistaken I remember Ferrari said that they spend over US$ 1,000,000 a year on tires alone
and by that time Michael Schumacher was getting US$ 35,000,000 a year (Robins Barachillo was getting 3.5 or 5 million a year
cant remember)
Once on the late show with David letterman
he asked Johan Pablo Monotoya (who was an Indy Driver
at the time of the interview he was a F1 driver for McLaren and now he back to NASCAR) whats the difference between Indy and F1
he said the same as an old pick-up truck and a Ferrari
some of the Girls at the F1 in Bahrain

Now that is what F1 is about :)
Jokes aside they had 2 seater F1 cars here last year.
They have 2 people sitting in tandem and they are not raced but used mainly for promotion.
BUT they are real F1 cars
The engines where so loud that people 9 kilometers away where complaining about the noise..... cool ;D
I would still love to go watch an F1 GP
A wealthy friend of mine goes to 3 a year and he recons the Belgium GP was the best.

Best thing about Monaco is being able to go on the track after practice and qualifying. At one point Schumacher was getting 80mil a year.

It sounds unreal as if it's from the future, just imagine what the rpm reader looked like.
-
18000 rmp is pretty much standard in F1 engines thee day ... ferrari and mclaren reach 20,000 and might exceed ... i am not updated on the new V8 engines ... but teh V10s were like what i just mentioned ... V8 could be the same ... theoretically they can go more than V10s
-

Recently they (could have been a few yrs now) made a rule limiting the rpms to 19,000.
-
They reduced the capacity and cylinders to V8s because no matter how they try to slow F1 cars downs with regulations such as downforce regulations and grooved tyres they just keep getting faster.
The technology is mind boggling if Nassar had the Budget and the narrow mindeness of the topF1 teams we would have landed on Mars by now.
The cars develop approxiamately 750 horsepower at 18 000rpm at a weight of 550KG plus driver from a 2.5 litre engine, to demonstrate the speed these cars corner at is incredible.Example at this years Grand Prix of Spain they put 2 chicanes at the Barcelona track to replace the the two fast right handers leading onto the long straight simply out of safety because of the insane speed these cars corner.
There top speeds at the fastest tracks is a tick over 200mph 330kmh.
Next year they are going on full slicks doing away with the grooved tyres(slower by 4 seconds)and reducing downforce to encourage overtaking, no matter how they tighten the regulations the engineers find loopholes and the cars keep getting faster. This year they did away with traction control and that has improved the spectator side of things.
The Canadian Grand Prix is at Montreal and should be able to be seen by the Americans on TV if you have a chance watch it will open your eyes to pure racing.
Thats my rant ive got $50 dollars on Raikkonen(Ferrari)to win but Hamilton is very fast and i think i might lose my money.
Any one interested in Motorcycles Moto GP will be on tomorrow from Spain Barcelona these 800cc machines produce 230 horsepower at 18 000 rpm and will reach top speeds of over 200mph on the straight.Ive got $20 dollars on the Ducati of Casey Stoner for the win.

this is incredible 80s & 90s were definitely the golden years
slicks, turbos, tobacco sponsorship,v12, little environmental concern
-
F1 ALL the way, baby! When I dream large, I am a Grand Prix driver and the scenery - just a blur. :)
-
previously they had 3000cc V10 engines ... this is the technology research for everyday cars ... what they do here then gets applied to the road cars after some time with modification
who fucking cares?
you do

I don't believe the crybaby Juan Montoya was ever with Ferrari....he was with Williams last, and because he couldn't get a seat in a Ferrari, he left, and now he is in Nascar, badmouthing F1....He was only good in Cart, but sucked in F1.

Doesn't matter, he will never be missed. He was a hot headed Bitch....There was the story of him in a arcade doing a driving game, and he would stay and beat all comers, but he would hog up the game until he he the top score that nobody could beat. Yet his ass was pissed he could beat Schuey, and he blamed it on the fact that he didn't have a Ferrari...no bitch it's you!!!

No kidding because when Schumi first came to Ferrari he had a LOT of work to do he didn't have a " Ferrari ' either he made that Ferrari it speaks volumes on how great he was , like Senna he could beat people in an underpowered car .

thats funny I used to do the same thing. I absoutley love and get goose bumps when I hear that sound. Just unreal power. I had an awesome sound system hooked up to my computer in Hawaii and I would listen to F1 sounds all the time and just crank it up and my whole place would be surrounded with that sound. I have never been able to hear it in person though. The closet was the Long Beach Grand Prix in 1998 I had VIP passes and everything. Well 2 days before the event I got bit by the spider and I didn't get to go. I remember telling the doctor at the hospital if I am going to be able to get out in time to go watch the race. He said no and I was pissed. Someday I will.

you right about nascar just going around a circle but this F1 shit puts a very unconfortable pit in your stomach just watching it...These guys truly put there life on the lines everytime they race...Its like a rollor coaster...Its cool when your young and all but as you get older, it just gives you an uneasy feeling...

If you think that was tight, try getting the Ferrari , V6, V8, V10, V12, and F1 Cd's...they have all the various Ferrari exhaust notes....

My old business partner had a 308 GTB and I used to take it out all the time on the weekends. I would whine that thing in first gear going through the beach area and it would sound so awesome. I got it up around 130 on the St. Thomas bridge several times.

once i saw on tv that shucmi actually allmost lived with his mechanics, cause they taught him a lot and he talked about how the car behaved on the track a lot more than other drivers, on the tv show his wife actually said that some of the mechanics actually had a room in their house were they crashed at night...
and you think you are obsessed about bb... shumi was obsessed... that is obssesion 8)
-
what makes a skilled driver ? i think its being fearless
-
a friend of mine drives stock in brasil, rally in paraguay and did a part of paris dakar... and he told me its basically being fearless and not thinking 2 times if you are gonna pass you pass if yu brake , you brake
and in you do rally, the last check pint on the biggest rally in paraguay is a 15 km allmost straight line on the dark in dirt, for those ocations, good all jhonnie walker helps.... specially if you are a few seconds behind... :)

one time ...first weekend i had my mustang... i was out at whats called a "park and ride"...JUST A BIG PARKING LOT REALLY... AND I WAS "SPINNING BRODIES" (OR WHAT ITS CALLED IN THE BAY AREA... "SIDESHOW" ).. (damnit i didnt mean for caps lock to be on )... well a cop came over the over pass and when he did he saw me in there going nuts... he hit the lights and started speeding towards the park and ride... a bunch of my friends and school mates were al out there with a bunch of cars too... they al started to pull out and drive away because most of them were drunk or high... well the cop came in and when he did he didnt stop at the entrance he just kept on driving in... it was dark so he couldnt see my license so i pretended to stop by then hit the gas... hahaha... i waited till he got out the car !... well i passed up all my friends driving in the wrong lane hoping he would pull one of them over instead (haha i know im fucked up ) because they were all speeding too and mst, like i said, were high and or drunks... wel this cop decides to try to make an example of me and passes up all these guys too... i end up in a high speed chase and my speedometer says im at 150 but im still accelerating.. the cop never came withing a 100 yards so i was pretty confident he couldnt get my license and as we aproached town he baclked offf...... but stupid fuck me, i didnt slow down at all...and as i got into town there was a red light and i had no choice but to make a right turn.. bu i was still goign over 110... and i wa about 20 feet from the light/turn... FUUUCCKKKK that turn aroun that corner wa insane but i was all high on x and weed so i was just having fun with it NO FEAR like i said and i made it just fine and got away from that copp...
no fear ! worked for me

a good thing about living on a third world country/shit hole is that the police officer here might not even have a police car... and if he does, with one fone call, im untouchable... i actually had an officer appologize to me after my gf called his father(big fish here)

Some wanted him to be penilized for crashing into Damon Hill (They were 1-2 in points with 1 point between them) on the last or second to last lap of the last race. Schuey had mechanical problems and when he was about to get passed he got tangled with Hill.

If you think that was tight, try getting the Ferrari , V6, V8, V10, V12, and F1 Cd's...they have all the various Ferrari exhaust notes....

Personally I love it, NASCAR as well. Since we live about 6 miles from Long Beach we get to the Grand Prix yearly. The Indy 500 this years was great, I thought Danica Patrick was gonna kick that dudes ass before security head her off.

You've obviously didn't watch Martin Brundle's vids. The skill level needed to control such cars is great. The concentration is off the meter. One needs excellent hand-eye coordination, and has was stated, taking 5 g's is no picnic. Think about like this, have you have you ever driving in the rain in rush hour traffic, and gotten home and felt tired, or exhausted? Well, that was the concentration that you felt while dealing with traffic. Multiply that by doing 200+ MPH, or drivin and enduro like Le Mans.

It's not that they can't field a whole grid of cars, it's because the development of and cost of running such a program is huge. For instance, Jaguar had a 300 Million dollar budget a few years back, and they still sucked ass. Jaguar should have used that money in development of new road models, like the F-type.
