Hawaii gas price sets record at $4.17
By Gordon Y.K. Pang
Advertiser Staff Writer
Gasoline prices statewide hit record highs yesterday, with Hawai'i's average price of a gallon of regular reaching $4.17, according to AAA Hawaii.
Hawaii Super Ferry On O'ahu, the average was a record-high $4.06, 7 cents higher than on the previous Friday, 31 cents more than last month and 75 cents higher than a year ago.
On Lana'i, the price has passed $5 a gallon.
But Hawai'i does not have the highest gas prices in the nation. "As high as average prices are here, five other states have averages that are higher than Hawai'i," said Richard Velazquez, AAA Hawaii regional manager.
"There really wasn't any let-up in pump prices for motorists this week anywhere in the country," Velazquez said.
And gas prices are almost certainly going to keep rising. The price of a barrel of oil yesterday made its biggest single-day leap ever — a rise of nearly $11 atop an increase of almost $5.50 the day before.
In Hilo, the AAA reported, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline yesterday was a record $4.15, up 5 cents from the previous Friday.
In Wailuku, the AAA said, the average was $4.49, up 7 cents over last week.
An observer on Lana'i reported that the only station there was selling regular for $5.119 a gallon.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

It's true, just north of the border they are paying on average $5.60 a gallon and thats with all their tar sands and shit. We have to remember that some people still have it way worse, I guess.

$4.57 for premium this morning.

The economy is doing great, folks.
That one day, $9 spike in oil barrel prices is just a sign that things are wonderful.
-
As of midnight last night, it just went up 6 cents a litre here in Toronto. We're now at $4.93 / gallon. (http://www.jaguarenterprises.net/images/em/whistle.gif)

No doubt in my mind that it needs to hit 10.00 a gallon to collapse the economy in time for obamas takeover........bushy boy is busy.

So I drove by a gas station today and they only posted the price for regular unleaded. Blank spaces for the others. They're changing the price darn near every day. Crooks. >:(

Best place to buy gas in Hawaii is Costco by far. diesel is $4.75 here in Vegas and regular is around $3.79 or so. If you buy a car at some dealership here now, you get gas for $1.47 for 3 years. A Dodge dealership was giving this same promotion for $2.99 a gallon. I'm buying a hand pump to go get my gas at night ;D

That's usually where I buy my gas, but Costco isn't really much cheaper these days. :-\
Don't get caught. :)

;D Some guys are using cordless drill and a 1/2" bit and drilling right into the bottom of the tank. Drain right into some jugs.
Beach. Do you think we should have a temporary cap imposed on the cost to free up spending in america and get the economy moving again??? What else could solve this??
-
i buy gas wherever they accept united milage plus visa

Yeah i just saw a news story on the cordless drill thing. Also, here in Cali they are going to farms and stealing gas which they in turn sell to truckers

In Nigeria, they drill directly into the pipelines. There've been many explosions and many people incinerated a result.
Why would someone want to ruin their chances at a future by stealing gasoline when there's a better way to get your gasoline for free without having to risk your reputation, a record, life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness?
While it's $5.109 a gallon here, ...there are many of us who get our gasoline and diesel for FREE (legally) (http://www.jaguarenterprises.net/images/em/whistle.gif)

Just to warn you, I don't consider a fuel additive "free" gas.

A cap on what? The amount oil companies can charge? I doubt that works. We tried a gas cap here and it didn't do squat. I don't think the government should step in and take control of the oil companies unless there is some antitrust stuff going on. We ought to just boycott those crooks. I'll be taking the bus to work this summer when I can.

We are about to hit $8 a gallon [US]
Strange none of the 'common man' really cares, it is just a mild annoyance. I assume as we don't produce anything so it won't cause job cuts and are so small it's impossible to drive long distances so gas last forever [?]

That's probably because you can drive from one end of your island to the other in about what... 2 hrs? ;D
I'll bet the tour boats are feeling it though. Sure they can raise their charter prices to cover...
...but I bet some of the commercial fishermen might be feeling the pinch of bunker fuel prices,
...the rest of the island will feel it when tourism drops due to fuel surcharges imposed by airlines & tour operators

Under 2 hrs actually to travel island wide, 45 mins max if you take the long scenic route ;D

There are people who can't even drive to work in less than 45 mins straight highway driving at 110 kms an hour
The guys from Texas are probably flipping out. It takes 2 days to drive from one end of that state to the other.
The good news is... you're never far from a beach!
