Title: Guitar Question?
Post by: Eyeball Chambers on June 18, 2008, 10:47:25 PM
If I went out and bought an acoustic guitar how long would it take me to learn to play this?

I have a never been used Ibanez K7.  They only made 40 of them and it is signed by all the members of KORN.  I am selling it.  If you want it PM me.

Seeing as It's signed by korn you should be paying someone to take it from you!

Bass is the way to go.

Everyone and the mother is a guitarist.  But bass players are hard to come by.  You'll always have work.  I know a million guitarists looking for work.  But every bassist I know plays out 2-4 nights a week steady.  I played guitar for 10 years before going to bass, and I can school most of the guitarists I play with, but I prefer bass because of job security.

come on now, I play drums and I've heard that about drummers. Bottom line is if you have chops you get work no matter what you play. I jammed with some bassist jerk off who said we were playing to fast yet he refused to play with a pick. Jam session ended when I kept calling him Les Claypool Jr.

It depends on how old you are, and what you want to put into it.
The parts of that song I watched are easy for a guitar player.

Let me give you a tip.  Stay out of the music business.

Depends on how much you practice. 6 months if you = a maniac, but remember that there = a difference between "playing" it an P L A Y I N G it. Playing it flawlessly with a nice vibrato and proper timing along with other musicians might take more than 6 months (but again, it = all dependant on how much you practice).

The song is stupifyingly easy once you've got teh skills.

And OMG, what a T E R R I B L E guitarsolo, WTF were they thinking dammit? >:(

ive got a friend who can dot his on the guitar, bass, drums ...and most songs on the piano some songs on the clairnet and some on the zylophone (spelling)...

he just instantly can play it... i guess when he hears the beat it translates into notes and he has wicked good memory.. pretty sick ...

No way dude.  I am a rhythm player and have zero solo skills.  I just knew there was a lot of guitarist on board.  Great idea though.

What equipment do you use?

I use Sonar or Audition with Guitar Rig and many other plugins.  I pretty much went all digital.  I also use acid drum loops.

Gotta great Crate tube amp that hasn't been touched in 2 years.

It is just a hobby for me.

The late great Paul Kossoff had more soul in one of his pubes than all those shredders combined. Show me an 80s hair/shred band that even approaches this:

Also, if you notice, a lot of the peoples fingers don't match up to the things they are doing on the guitar. I remember one kid playing "Pachebel Canon in D" and he was really really good at something like 15 years old. However, the tone he had was nothing like what he had in his room, his computer mike was crystal clear with zero noise, and there were 2-3 parts of the video where the fingers didn't quite match up to everything he did. He could probably play the piece and possibly recorded it prior- but I'm guessing that take wasn't the same one that the camera was showing.

i used to have far beyond the sun, cliffs of dover, always with me always with you and serrana arpeggios memorized back in the day.  i quit due to my obsessive tendencies, used to practice scales to a metronome for hours just improving my speed.  It got to where it wasnt fun anymore so I just quit.

I now put my obsessive compulsive disorder to better use in bodybuilding  ;D

hahaha ok, so they didn't play 10 different scales of shredoian and they didn't execute the notes as cleanly as the guys in Dream Theatre, so what, the vibe was rockin and if you didn't get it, your soul is dead.

Love the older obscurer Halen stuff, off Fair Warning and Woman and Children First.

I played for years as well and got into the usual shred mentality where if the player didn't exhibit some insane technicle savy he was garbage. But after a while all those Marty Friedmans and Vai's and Petruccis sound the same. I can't believe Angelo is still playing the same shit he did back in the 80's and to me that stuff sounds like my ears are being drilled out.

To each his own.

Debussey does not give a shit, and is now into Jazz and classical, despite still loving Dream Theater with all its heart :'(

for Debussey

for Debussey

Ohh sweet, those videos rock, hahaha, even the one with FuckSchteen.

Debussey has teh original Rock Discipline video and Petruccis Wild Stringdom book. Debussey could play The Flight of the Bumblebee at Petrucci speed back in teh day, but needs some practice to do it again :'(

Petrucci = god. He was also a mathematically inclined child.  :D

What about a guitar/composition challenge this december or january? DEBUSSEY VS CAPTAIN EQ!!! (Debussey can't play much guitar the next few months, very little time to spare),  Criteria: Newly composed little tune, and orchestra is allowed.

vinnie moore----- awesome.

I've been looking everywhere for his 'meltdown' cd.  anyone know where it's sold?  I wanted to just I-tune it, no luck.

MacAlpine trumps all of them I think... some of his stuff is just....unreal, Vai is too out there/weird...
Vinnie Moore was just one of the clones... Friedman was dwarfed by Becker's immense talent...

Michael Angelo

I met this guy at Thoroughbred Music in Tampa, back in the 80's. The guy was a dick.

This is a common trait of great musicians.

Duane Allman

Only reason I can still listen to Layla is Duane's slide playing.
