Title: RIP Stacey Dunbar
Post by: 240 is Back on June 30, 2008, 08:40:20 AM

This is such a sad story.  A fund has been established in her 2-year-old daughter Amiyah Lauture’s name at all local branches of Sun Trust Bank where people can make contributions.

A letter from Shannon Ertter to her younger sister, 21-year-old Stacey Dunbar Lauture, a former Cape Coral resident who was found shot to death in her Georgia home. Police believe her husband, Darnell, was responsible. He was found dead in his car on Saturday. Police believe he committed suicide. The couple leaves behind a 2-year-old daughter, Amiyah.

My dear sweet, baby sister:

I was 15 when you were born. You know how my love for you emulates the love I have for my two boys. I have never felt this depth of loss. I am in shock of the reality of this all.

Whether someone met you once or had known you your entire life, we are all in agreement that your smile and laugh are contagious. You share your sweet kiss and hugs and pour out your love without reservation — a very trusting soul.

I've always told you how your intelligence has amazed me through the years. You love to read and takes nothing for you to absorb the facts — the smartest girl I know.

When I married Mike, you were 5 years old — my flower girl. You clung to my bridesmaid, weeping. Later I learned that you thought by me marrying and becoming Mike's wife, I somehow lost the status of being your big sister — you sweet baby girl!

Although you are a mommy and adult at 21, you are forever my baby sister. I wish this nightmare would go away. I wish I could erase the pain you have endured. I wish I could hold you and touch your beautiful face.

I want to cuddle up and hold you forever. I so selfishly want you back, but God has you now! His love is more than any of us can provide.

But I still want you back, for Amiyah, for me and my boys, for mom and Amanda, for Dad, for all that you have touched in this short time you have graced us with.

But, then there is that piece of you that you have unknowingly left behind. Our sweet Amiyah is a carbon copy both inside and out of your beauty and love. She reminds me in so many ways of you when you were small. Was that part of God's plan?

But poor Amiyah has been robbed of your overflowing love. She is so connected to you. She wants you above everything else. No one can replace you!

You know how much we love that baby girl. Our promise to you, Stacey, is to love, protect and comfort her. We will always speak of you and share how much you love her, but no one is a replacement for you. Amiyah is robbed of her own memories of her mommy. How is that OK? How do we accept that?

Stacey, if you are able, please guide us all to what your will is, what God's will is for the life you unknowingly left behind. As you were so abundantly loved, so, too, is your sweet baby girl!!!

I love you, I love you, I love you. You are forever in my heart — my sister, Stacey Brianna Dunbar Lauture.

Love, Shannon.

This is such a sad story.  A fund has been established in her 2-year-old daughter Amiyah Lauture’s name at all local branches of Sun Trust Bank where people can make contributions.

Sad.

But what exactly will those “funds” be used for?  Is there a limit to how big the fund will be allowed to grow? What if someone made a $10 million donation to the fund tomorrow?  How much of it would be used annually?  Who will administer the funds?  Will the administrators get a portion of the proceeds?  Will anyone be policing the use of the funds over the next 10-20 years?  Doesn’t this child have surviving grandparents, aunts, uncles, or other relatives that can raise and provide for her?  What is their economic status?

Maybe I’ve gotten cynical in my old age, but I am skeptical whenever I hear stories like these; there are lots of tales of woe in the world but do all of them have to end with a call for me to open my wallet?

With church priests and the former head of the United Way Campaign using donations to fund hookers, gambling trips to Vegas, and their private real estate investments, I almost never give to charity anymore.  When I do give, it is to a cause I am personally very familiar with.

It's the typical feeling of helping ONE kid but forgetting a bunch of other, truth is that most people
prefer much  more to help one single kid in form of longdistance adoptions or simply by spending money.
There are literally 1000 kids that die every day and that there is nothing we can do for them is a little bit to much reality for most peope.
Don't forget the average person cannot and doesn't want to deal with harsh reality in any way or form, they want to life in their little bub ble with cable TV, they only brush with the reality how over 80% of all the people on this planet have to life (or better exist let's not call it life) when they visit cheap holiday destinations and even than most of then tend to stick to Holiday resourts so they don't need to bother with the pure horror of staying alife.

I'm not saying Rob is doing this for himself and to feel better but I'm convinced that most of the people simply help other
people in need to make them feel better.
Simply egocentric selfneed doesn't impress me one single bit.

Like the 'Jimmy Fund'

I remember, as a kid, an advert in comic books that had Jimmy, in a wheelchair, watching kids toss a ball, and him saying:

"I can dream, can't I...?"

Well, after all these years...Jimmy still aint walkin'...

So

I give nothing to the Jimmy Fund and similar interests

Not when the head of such funds make millions...and nothing positive ever seems to come out of them

I know that Amanda Dunbar has a lot of fans around the world who read getbig, she was close to her sister, and that the story is absolutly horrible for the poor 2-year old girl who just lost both parents and now is caught in a custody battle between both sets of grandparents.   It's big news in SW Florida and you just gotta feel for that poor kid.

look at the Madelein cluster fuck, to this day i am convinced that the parents had something todo with it, in any case it baffles me at what lengh people go to support ONE FUCKING family and simply overlook (conveniently) million of other families in the US Europe (let's not even bring Iraq into the ballgame).
Here we have ONE family with a lot of questions hanging over them and still MILLIONS of people tend to see the need to give them shitloads of cash.
But when they pay their morgage off ....... OH NO EVERYBODY GO MAD!!!!!!!

There is a part of me that really want them to be guilty simply because I cannot WAIT to see the dumb look on the people faces that
were so quick to buy into the whole thing.

Moosejay, you gotta admit the Jimmy Fund is one of the most successful charities of all time. Not sure where in Conn. you're from but every summmer WEEI sports radio and the Red Sox due their telethon and to hear some of those kids and their success stories is astonishing. Plus the money they raise for Boston Children's Hospital is ridiculous. Not many other charities have higher success except maybe A Wish Come True and those kid's are usually terminal.
