Yes. Very very right. Thats why i exggerate like Ronnie even the weight i use is ridiculously light(3plates each max).

i dont agree. squats dont do shit for me. never have. i do what works for me, not what others say works for them. and definitely not what is considered " hardcore" just so i can feel "hardcore"; thats moronic.
my theory = any thing involving a muscle contraction = growth. how much growth depends on the rep range where you hit complete failure. and where you grow depends on what muscle was used for the contraction.

Do full squat with only one plates each and try to acomplish 40reps...Lets see what happen.

for me the best exercises that have always put mass on me are hack squats and single leg leg press

why the fuck are you afraid of squats? doing them with a weight you can handle, in a squat rack with a belt and after a proper warm up, the chances of you getting injured are near impossible.

Yeah. People always ask me what i do for my legs.
I always say Simple,high rep fullrange of squat until your legs shakin.
Damn need a pair of balls. Even Paco gave me a prop to my intensity of leg workout. 8)

I wasnt scared when I restarted back up in Feburary of this year, but I was very self conscience, being very overweight and a female its a security issue. Now, after loosing 85llbs, I could give a fuck less

But You dont look like lifting weight. You must do very good amount of compound movement.
Not isolation movement like leg extension. They dont produce mass.
Since your comparing the pain of squat with the pain of leg extension,i could imagine that you were not legit weight lifter.
Get tough and you shall receive good mass.

The only reason I could be scared to go to the gym is getting injured. Or even worse, training while injured which is incredibly stupid but that I can't help sometimes.
