Colin Powell in Private Confab With Obama
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 8:53 AM
By: Phil Brennan
Sen. Barack Obama and former Bush Secretary of State Colin Powell met privately two weeks ago, according to an exclusive report in the National Journal's On Call blog.
Powell, who last month in British Columbia hinted that he might vote for Obama, met with the all-but-certain Democratic presidential nominee in Powell's Alexandria, Va., office on June 18.
The meeting was confirmed by Peggy Cifrino, Powell's spokeswoman, who said the two met for about an hour. She told On Call that the meeting was "Just an informal conversation," and added, "There’s no looming endorsement. They came to talk about issues."
Cifrino said that Powell and Sen. John McCain met the week prior in Arlington.
On June 26, veteran Washington columnist Robert Novak wrote, "Powell probably will enter Obama's camp at a time of his own choosing." Later that day, On Call noted that Juan Williams, NPR senior correspondent and Fox News political contributor, touted a McCain/Powell pairing.

I had heard the same thing about McCain/Powell. But I'm thinking that's not the case now that there's rumor about Mitt Romney being his #2 man. If McCain goes with Romney, I'm leaving the office of president/vp blank when I vote.
-
Romney will 100% be the VP nominee, I'm sure of that.
And I'm still sure that Clinton will be the Obama pick. Once his little honeymoon ends in the polls, and it seems to be happening now, he'll need her voters.
-
fuck, will that Novak fuckhead die already... He's going to be spewing BS until he's 120. ::) Why anyone listens to him I will never know.

He already has her voters, dummy. I see the VP likely coming out of VA(Kaine, Webb), OH(Strickland) or IN(Bayh). An outside chance for Sebelius. Fuck Hillary.
Powell is voting for Obama. Black people can read the code language brother Powell is putting out. ;)

You're saying Powell is voting for Obama based on his skin color? :o I guess you don't have much respect for the distinguished general. :-\

yawn. What is your education level?

40+% of Hilary supporters have said in polls that they will now vote for mccain.

masters degree
yours?

bullshit

Ur melting down benny..anybody with a Masters should be able to articulate why people should vote for Obama better then hoping they die in combat....or not worry what the polls say about the obamessiah.
-

Yeah, that is what I read right before he won primaries and just last week. I think he bailed on trying to win them over and is going for the evangelical support for now. John Cravel (The Ragin Cajun) said that it would divide the party more than anyone thought possible, this was back right after Hillary hired him.

In this march poll, 28% of hilary voters said they would choose mccain. It's been as high as 40% but I don't have the foggiest idea nor time to search the daily hardball transcripts for when that survey took place. At least 1/4 of Hilary voters say they'll choose mccain. I think she'll still be on the ticket.
-
I don't know, I think the dems pretty much got what they wanted out of this elecion..no more Bill/Hill and a tough candidate to attack, while easy for them to manage. I don't think she will be on the ticket. He's people, his core people don't like her. However alot of the installed folks, are all Bills' people.

Really? Dude. That would be tantamount to a vote for Obama. :-\ What issues do you have with Romney?

I would bet like my entire collection of lipgloss no way Powell runs with McCain. His "I don't know who I am voting for yet" comment, praise for Obama, meeting with Obama etc - as a repub - speaks volumes. He's an Obama man, I read the 'code' ;D
Also, Powell looks really good - but two 70yr old+ guys on a ticket? And Powell offers strenghts McCain is perceived to have already - foreign policy and defence. He does not seem to add much is another mega old military guy, albeit a really respected one, but still.
I think Romney is a way better option for VP. Brings younger age, very strong economic background etc.

Sorry... This is off topic...
I've told you before but I'm going to say it again. That is the best Avatar on Getbig.
Thank you!

There's no such thing as "melting down" for me, GI Joe. I'm the same way all the time on this board. This place is an unmoderated source of comic relief for me. I say what I please without any repercussions. If I want to engage in polite political discourse I go elsewhere.
I don't hope everyone dies in combat who disagrees with me, just you and the rest of the fake-ass Captain America's and chickenhawk bullshitters who permeate this site. ;D

Good post

Probably that he is a Mormon, flip-flopping phony. :-\ I am still inclined to believe that he'd have been the better repube nominee, however. As far as VP, he has a shot but I think the MN governor or Mark Sanford of SC would be good choices for McCain too.

masters degree
I don't believe it.

I don't believe it.
And I don't care. ;)
-
Republicans wanted to run against Obama anyways.
-
Romney will 100% be the VP nominee, I'm sure of that.
If McCain selects Romney, that would give at least 2-3 more states to Obama.
-
And I don't care. ;)
Good answer. :)

Very possible... BUT...
Without Romney's money, does mccain lose 5 former Bush states?

neocons are very good at making rational people meltdown. It's kind of like when you're enjoying the great outdoors, everything is awesome and then some hornet comes into the scene and stings your ass... Yea, that's what neocons do.

I don't believe it.
I easily believe Benny has a masters. When he is not, er, flaming people, he displays good levels of intelligence and knowledge.

I don't easily believe it. Someone who calls anyone who has a contrary viewpoint dumb, etc. and hopes an Army officer gets blown up by an IED simply because he disagrees with him politically doesn't sound too intelligent or knowledgeable. Not something you would expect from a person with an advanced degree.

See I would not use those methods - you are basically saying you don't believe it as he calls ppl dumb, wants folks blown up etc. By that thought pattern, as I never say things even close to that and try and be pleasant I would be educated - and I would hazard a guess I am most likely the least educated person who posts on politics by far. Look at BF, BF flames with the best of them and always has, but to me he also is very obviously a very intelligent and educated guy. Many bright people flame.

I didn't say the contrary was true. I don't believe that only uneducated people have no class, etc. There are plenty of arrogant, classless, educated people. I encounter them all the time.
I also didn't mean to imply that only uneducated or dumb people flame. All I'm saying is someone who calls anyone with a contrary viewpoint dumb or hopes an Army officer with a different opinion is blown up doesn't sound like one of the most educated persons in the country (as someone with a master's degree is). Just my opinion. :)
