'What the guys are work are saying' is of no importance, but my take was always that he was more in awe of her than in love with her.
I don't think they're still together, but I could be wrong - it's been some time since I've been in contact with Maria.

If she wanted attention she could have dyed her hair green and worn some polka dot stockings, all the drugs and whatever health risks come from it arnt worth it. It's women like her that make the sport a mockery. If more women looked more like, well, women then the judging would have no where else to go.
