Title: Anyone here have bunion surgery?
Post by: chainsaw on July 06, 2008, 12:38:12 PM
My big toe on my left foot needs to have
that bone shaved down, and the toe straightened.

I'm trying to find out how long I would
not be functioning, and how severe the pain would be?

I haven't had the surgery personally, but from someone I trained who did have it was out for a few months.
It was a doctor error, she had to have a pin inserted to reconnect the bones properly.  She had to use a bone stimulator to make it heal correctly.

I would suggest you research your surgeon thoroughly and get references before you go under the knife.

Someone I know had the toes straightened. It took a long time to heal. Some screws inside the bone that were put there in the procedure broke and had to be replaced.
So another operation and more healing time. All in all I would say it took 6 months. But it was on both feet and there were about 4 operations total.

I hope you have a good surgeon and your toe is not too complicated to correct.
