Has anyone recently driven across the border? Specifically at NY/Quebec? I'm going soon and it'll be my first trip to Canada . I just want to know what to expect as far as what papers they might want to see, possible delays, etc. Did you just show your license and breeze through?

I would assume it's like any Can/US crossing. Bring the proper id (the US now demands that we Canadians produce a passport; other photo id is not good enough. Not sure what Canada expects from US citizens; the same?) and be courteous and tell the truth. Should not have troubles, and unless there are a lot of cars, you should be through in 5 mins.

The canadian agents are the biggest pricks. They are about 10 times worst than the US agents. I get grilled heading into Canada, they'll ask me the same questions 3 or 4 times to see if they can catch me in a lie. Heading back to the US and they are way nicer and it takes a minute to get through.

I never had a problem, EVER. And I crossed last year within a few days of that lawyer from Atlanta who was infected with some contagious disease and got the border agent fired for not stopping him ???

Just did it last week at the Maine border{coming and going}
birth certificate and valid drivers licence is all you need if your an American.Canadians need a passport.into Canada was a breeze,no line,a couple of questions,10 minutes tops.coming back was longer,maybe 30 minutes.longer line and my girl and I had to go inside and answer some questions.There's no rhyme or reason to who they grill.the people inside with us were a family of 4 with 2 little kids.
the security at the American side of the border are not nice people! so be prepared for that.they definitely play "bad cop".
...they didn't search my car which was good because I didn't have to explain about the Cuban cigars I brought back with me :D ;)

I found the complete opposite. I went a few years ago with a friend who had to pick up some immigration papers from a US border office just south of Alberta. I wasn't actually going deep into the US, just tagged along for the road trip to the border crossing so I only brought my driver's license and not my passport. When the US agents saw me they asked for ID and after I showed them my license they got mouthy and were like WTF is this?! lol. Then they issued some paper to me saying that my name is unknown and my country of citizenship is Pakistan (even though I'm not even a citizen of Pakistan but only Canada). They chose Pakistan simply because my friend had a Pakistani passport and we had the same skin colour. I asked him how does he know I'm even Pakistani and not Indian or something - we look the same lol. He gave me a dirty look at that. When I returned to the Canadian office which is just meters away they saw my license and the incriminating US document but didn't question me at all before letting me back in.

Seriously it's not just you or your skin tone. US border patrol stop me a lot. I cross at least once a week as I use Detroit Airport as my hub to fly out of. I'd say going to the states they stop me and actually pull me in one in four times. I think that's a lot.

the girl at the border asked who the Expos were playing :D good thing we knew!

if the border patrol lady had a nickle for every clown that said they were just going to see the bruins-canadiens game but ended up on st catherines, she could move in next to xfactor and chat it up with him about watches ,porches and traveling europe

Canada never once.
I only had one border experience at the airport and to be fair it actually went well for me. I was going to North Carolina from Toronto on a work trip, and was told that I would just have to present a copy of my educational certifications along with a letter confirming that I was needed to work in the US for two weeks, and they processed it right away with no questions asked. He told me he could have held me back technically because I only brought photocopies of the certifications and not the actual hard copies, but he still gave me a break and let me go.
I'm most likely going on a holiday to Southern California in September, so will see how that border experience goes.

Shouldn't be a problem if you have a passport, avoid the crossing going towards Montreal towards weekends if you want to save some time re car lines. Stop at duty-free on the way to/from, the prices are worth it.

Are the strip clubs in Montreal that much better than the ones south of the border that people would make the trip for them?
Alot better than where I live.I can go into NYC but it cost WAY to much money.
the clubs in Montreal are alot more condensed in location and much more fan friendly :)

14 hrs each way.it was alot cheaper than flying and then renting a car for a week.
the worst part of the drive was when you get buy Augusta,Maine and the the first part of Canada.long and booooooring.
