not excactly old timers, but the absolute norm and average, it makes sense to use young people for a war,
they are easier to controll since they tend to not have the live experience an older person has, they
are also in most parts fitter their metabolism is better, their system as in body works better or is at the height of
their life.
They also takes things easier, shrug of things easier.

So all in all it just makes sense  to use young people.

I see what you're saying and don't take this as an attack on your post, but I also think there was a deeper statement in what he said.

That just fucking makes me want to cry.  To think there might still be people being held.  That's just fucked up.

age wise you can't say they're dead.  At some point in the 80's it would have become very politically disadvantageous to admit their existence.  At that point the decision would have been made to either terminate or never let them go.  My guess is they would no longer serve any purpose politically or otherwise and would have been terminated.  Either way, it's a very sad thing to think about.  This war shit sucks ass and as Bush has shown, it sure in the hell doesn't come about by the last option.  My heart goes out to all the young men who answer the call and my condemnation goes out to the fuckeads who send them like it's a fucking board game.

They should let them walk true a minefield, and broadcast it. Surely a big hit.

Yea, while other countries throw small kids into their army and gives them guns or straps a bomb on their babies.  I'll take the USA over any other country in a heartbeat.

i dont believe there are any POW's. it would have been too advantageous for a political figure to out the information about POW's still being held, throughout the 80's. That would have been perfect ammunition for the leftist party during Reagans campaigns and even till today.

There have been several congressional investigations into the POW rumors for years.  All of which have turned up negative.  It is speculated that president Nixon was making POW searches a cover up to further the war in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia after the conflict was supposed to be over.

First of all it's not Countries that do that but Oragnisations (some call them terrorists some call them freedom fighters)
And the only difference between sending a 19 year old to war and sending a 12 year old to a conflict zone (Somalia for excample) is the
6 years age difference, the outcome is pretty much the same.

They did that back in the Iran conflict, they called apone the once that wanted to die a heroes death and promised them
a direct trip to paradise, most of the once that volunteered were kids and juveniles and they were queueing for this "honor" and some
they had problems in not taking volunteers for what ever reason.

All of them were walked over minefields or send onto suicide missions as cannonfodder before the crack troops, we are talking thousands here.

True
The Russians did that in WW2 as well.
General Zukhov would first chase the rabble across the mine fields to clear it by standing on the mines and then sends his crack troops across afterwards.

with the fundamental difference that the once in Iran volunteered (gladly) because they thought they go to heaven, the russian soldiers on the other hand were forced to do that :)
