He was pretty jacked in They Live. He obviously juiced for the role.

Poor guy has lost 4-5" in height since his prime. He had inches of spine compressed and had a hip replacement. Went from 6'1"-6'2" down to his present 5'9"-5'10". DEAD serious.

the beauty of pro wrestling

if you gotta juice to look like that though....  err not good.  Still he was in good shape and he was alright in that movie too, come on.... he had the look, some talent.... suprised he didn't do more.... obviously wrestling, contracts, job politics etc...   allotta guys (wrestlers)tried to stay in the movies, few did.

Hot Rod’s weight has gone up and down more times than Oprah’s.
But he has dialed it in a few times, like in the mid-90’s when he worked that program with Jerry Lawler and made those really bad movies with Billy Blanks.

Then, during one of his more recent WWF returns, he sported his largest gut ever. His skin was pasty white, and Vince put him in black trunks and boots, which made it even worse. He looked like Shamu.

He was in no shape to take off his shirt, much less get in the ring.
But that’s one thing I’ve heard and read many times from former employees: Vince has his guys do a lot of daft stuff just for Vince’s own amusement (see the “Red Rooster” Terry Taylor).

Piper lives in my hometown, although I have never seen him.  He used to own a auto repair shop called Pipers Pit Stop.  The shop is still around but I don't think he owns it anymore.  I believe he also recently battled cancer, so it's understandable if he no longer looks jacked.

Does Pipes still live in/near Aloha?
You’re right, he did just recently deal with cancer.
The auto shop was one bit of Piper trivia I did not know.

I hope you get to meet him one day.
I’ve met and worked with several guys from that generation at independent shows, but have never had the fortune of meeting Piper.

My buddy worked a brief stint in WWF around 2005. Met Pipes at the HOF ceremony. Had some interesting things to say about him.
I’ve also heard from a few other people from the Oregon area who would regularly see guys like Roddy, Playboy Buddy Rose, etc. “training” at the local gym.

Two of Rod’s kids are beginning to make names for themselves now.
The (I believe) middle daughter – a very pretty girl – is into acting, modeling, and one or two other things, while the son is training in MMA.

I just hope they don’t end up like the Hogan’s!

Where's Keith?

 :)
Keith knows more than a few celebs from different industries.

Most of the wrestling “stars” I’ve met are well past their prime and trying to hang onto the business that’s passed them by, working in front of 150 people in high school gyms, bingo halls, and tents at county fairs.
Some do it because they love it, but many, sadly, need the paycheck.

King Kong Bundy was my favorite.
Just seemed like a genuinely nice dude backstage and posed for pictures with kids in the ring.

Then there’s the Iron Sheik, still trying to pay bar tabs with 8x10’s of him wrestling Hulkster in 1984. He has another of himself posing with the Fed belt.
Kind of like the Lou Ferrigno of the wrestling world...

That’s hilarious.
I’ve never heard him on Stern, but I know he has a habit of using Kayfabe (wrestling lingo) when talking to regular people.

Back in 1987 around the time of WM III, Sheik and Hacksaw Jim Duggan were pulled over and busted for DUI and drug possession.
Years later, Dynamite Kid (or Bobby Heenan) mentioned that McMahon was furious – not so much about the drugs, but more so because two of his wrestlers that were supposed to be feuding at the time were caught sharing a car to the next town.

Shiek may have been crazy, but it was a crazy business and lifestyle.

I met Piper at a convention in Jersey 5 years ago. He was great to meet. He was smiling and shaking everyone's hand; you'd think he was running for President. I've watched Lou from a distance at the same convention and he seems to be decent in person.

Ferrigno?

He probably is. I think the most flack he catches is for charging $20+ for an autograph.
There are worst things.

THAT WAS IN JERSEY .yeah that was dumb cause wrestling is staged, but in the ring the feud needs to be sold to get crowd frenzied, nowadays there are no good or bad ,they just pit whoever is top guy against another top guy, nowadays there all on same level ,they make some strange wrestlers champs.guys with no muscle or ring persona a champ ,strange how it went from 80/90's muscle freaks to guy like 'edge' who looks like a normal guy a top draw.

I was just refering to the Portland area in general.  Not sure exactly where Piper lives.  But I have seen Playboy Buddy Rose on a few occasions, definately not in the gym though!
