Georges St. Pierre rules the 170-pound welterweight division. And Patrick (The Predator) Cote, GSP's friend and Montreal training partner, has been granted a crack at the 185-pound middleweight title -- probably later this year.
Cote (14-4) earned that Saturday night by winning a split decision over Ricardo (Big Dog) Almeida in the co-main event of UFC 86 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
"He's getting a title shot," UFC president Dana White said.
Cote is expected to meet Anderson Silva for the title but there are some hoops for the champion -- considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in mixed martial arts -- to jump through first. Silva is taking on James (The Sandman) Irvin on July 19 in Las Vegas in a light-heavyweight bout. Then he is slated to defend his middleweight title, probably against Japan's Yushin Okami, at UFC 88 in Atlanta on Sept. 6.
The Cote fight is expected some two months after that.

DAMN.... The Spider has his work cut out for himself. He's gonna tear through Okami. Irvin, I'm not so sure: that fight could equal a Sandman win......
As for Cote, I'm sure Silva will win that fight... just gotta watch out for Pat's hammers.

Hear. Hear. I second that.

Almeida ?? Imagine if Cotes was able to defend the take down against him, theres is no way big dog will take Silva down !!! Plus Almeida fights seems boring to me...
Whit that being said I don't really see Pat beating Silva...He is training harder then ever but Spider is too much for him IMO.
-
Almeida's previous fight was over in like 60 seconds of the first round due to submission! He looked fast as hell and way better than he did in his last fight.

Agreed. On the other side, I would say the Almeida would have a better chance on the ground. Either fighter would most likely eat some Spider heel. ;D

Damnit. A we are talking about Cote and Almeida. You need to come to terms, if the Spider gets caught in the Sandman's web then it is Night Night.
