It's not genetic lol, it's the way the oatmeal ferments. Stouts are alright for winter but during the summer I'm a white ale man.

real bodybuilders dont drink alcohol. hope this helps.
Have fun wasting away the best years of your life..... A few beers won't kill you, and you aint no bodybuilder. Go out and have a little fun on the weekends, your two young to be worried about a few hundred extra cals from beer. If you work hard in the gym, drinking a six pack with some chicks on the weekends, isn't going to alter your physique.

That's cool, and you have every right to your opinion.... but, a company that makes shitty beer wold not have numerous medals in every serious beer competition that exists. The proof that they don't suck is in their accolades and medels given to them by their peers in the beer world.

Here's the real reason articulated why I won't drink Sam Adams rather then give my token answer. Right now in Philly they have a really good microbrew scene going. I purchased a Philadelphia Brewing Company sampler on July 11th. The date it was bottled was on the 24th of June. In addition to it being fresh as hell I'm supporting a local small business which is a big deal to me.
meltdown haha
-
Are you going to try and tell us Sam Adams isn't good beer? If thats the case, I think you might be one of those micro heads that refuses to drink anything unless it's unknown to the masses, whether it's good or not.
i've had just about every beer sam adams makes. with the exception of the cream stout and the light lager (which is damn refreshing on a summer day), i find them horridly overrated. don't care how many awards they've won, as a guy who's had probably 400 separate beers over the years, i'm just not impressed. nothing stuck with me.
remember, pabst blue ribbon won best american premium lager in the 2007 world beer cup, along with a host of others. just because it's won awards doesn't mean a lot. every bottle of sam adams could be capped off with a medal it won, and i'd still call it bland.
-
Sam Adams is the best mainstream American beer.
-
Sam Adams is the best mainstream American beer.
absolutely.
and sam adams deserves TONS of credit for basically bringing craft beer back. their efforts have made it possible for both american microbrews and importers to make a business out of quality beer.

Thats cool, just making a point here. Saying that you are going to ignore every major beer title Sam had won shows you are not unbiased with your assessment of a beer company. How can you ignore how Sam Adams beers have won so many awards, at so many beer competitions - ( judged by their peers) in the beer world? You may find the beer bland, but the people who judge beers within the industry have awarded Sam Adam beers with important awards. Who cares if Pabst won a competition, maybe they had the best beer on that day. I think that further drives home my point of you basing your beers on fashion, and not results. Not to mention, Sam has won a SLEW of awards, so it's not like there beers are one hit wonders.
I'm not trying to question your opinion. If you don't like Sam Adams thats totally cool ( different pallets like different beers), but to say they don't make good beer ( like you did in your first post I responded to), is ludicrous.
Thats like me claiming BWM doesent make good cars. I may prefer mercedes, or lexus, but BMW sure as hell dont make a shitty car. On a side note, hows Hurley? He looked cool as hell in your first pics you posted. Is he hating the summer heat?
-
what i'm getting at is that awards are not really much to go by. lots of beers have won awards. miller lite and pabst have been coated with awards, doesn't mean anything. i'd rather check out beeradvocate and see what the guys there think. they aren't all beer snobs, by and large they're damn fair and i usually agree with the consensus (though certainly not always).
hurley's doin' great, haha. i made sure to buy an AC unit so he can keep cool. he just lays around most of the time though. and every time i go outside he follows because he wants to ride in the car. seriously, he's like my little partner in crime, lol

Plenty of studies to back up the benefits of 1-14 drinks a week and working out. It is great for the body. Just don't over do it. Everything in moderation.

There is nothing wrong with drinking beer. Live a little and have fun. However, I understand you are a "hardcore bodybuilder," and have no time for that. ::)

i live and have fun everyday of my life. its sad that you consider "living" drinking alcohol. you must not have much social courage or bravery to act the way you want to act ? thats okay its failry common. the first step is you must ADMIT you have these problems. then just come to terms with whatever insecurities you may have.... understand you have insecurities, understand that yoru not the only one who has them... and learn that most people are too caught up checking themownselves out to ever really take much notice of you anayway. :)

We have about 6 of the Sam Smith "flavors" at my work...Nut Brown goes the fastest and then the Oatmeal Stout.
-
I think having a drink on the weekends is okay, but doing it regularly really does fuck with your system.
Most beers are filtered so it's not like you can get the supposed benefit of the grains. And 1-2 drinks a day can easily become 3-5+, which isn't good at all. From that point on you'll pretty much be frying your liver, slowing down the growth of cells in your brain, forcing water out of your body everyday.
It's amazing how light society's attitude towards alcohol is just because it's legal and taxed.. lol Not that I'm against alcohol or anything it's just that I think weed is a lot better and safer and there's no risk of serious addiction and withdrawl.
like Leafy said, do it in moderation and it really is great stuff.

check out wittekerke sometime. i think it's a great little white wheat. at the bar here they'll mix it with a raspberry lambic and it's surprisingly drinkable on one of those swelteringly hot days.

stouts and IPAs can make it up to 20%. some even stronger. check out dogfish head's 120 minute IPA or the mephistopheles stout. belgian tripels, quadrupels, and malt beverages routinely hit around the 14% mark as well. ;)

Yeah but they probably go the 'Eisbock' route, extracting frozen water. Although theoretically it doesn't go against the Beer Purity Law, many breweries would still call it cheating.

not at all. in fact, beer above 12% is far from uncommon when you go into your strong abbey ales, and i heavily doubt the monks of trappist breweries are doing anything that anyone would call "cheating".

Oh yes, i know about the brand Wittekerke especially the Rose which is a Raspberry wheat beer from them...we normally have it on tap but we are finishing our IPA and Strong Beer Festival now. The white beer is good too and always goes so fast. We usually have the Framboise on too.

Koningshoeven! the only non-belgian trappist brewery! i've never had that one, but if you're not big on that, chances are you don't like quads in general. still, if you can find the st bernardus 12 or the kasteelbier donker (also called the bruine/brune). they're sticky sweet beers, i think the alcohol is hidden damn well.

Did someone say Philadelphia? :)
/agree with ya re: microbrews. there's a great brewpub not 5 minutes walk from me and they're always trying new things. handpump beer engine, too!

We normally have St. Bernardus 12 on...right now we have quite a selection from the Dupont Brewery on...the Avec is the greatest

Arrognant Bastard is on right now (Along with Stone IPA and Smoked Porter) and the only Avery one we have is their IPA

exactly
you fools think your "living" cuz you get drunk
tell you something, when you have peace of mind and know who you are you dont need to drink any alcohol to have bravery , courage, have a god time, ect ect.. alcohol is for social cowards.
The beers being discussed here are high end, one-or-two-at-a-time beers. Not that trash you drink by the case. I think youre being short sighted here Candi

ignore him. i hate to keep hounding the kid, but he's a textbook case of addictive personality. sees no point in drinking if it's not to get fucked up, everything is either excess or abstinence. eventually he's either going to really hurt himself or wise up, and i really hope it ain't the former.

You'd think that the Aussie rep for being big beer drinkers would mean an appreciation for a well brewed beer, but in most cases there's more appreciation for quantity than quality. Please tell me you're not a VB man Tombo.
-
Nah im not a VB man, i like a dry beer not a full beer, and although i never reach for one if im 'thirsty' i never have a thirst for alcohol is nicer to have one that doesn't bloat, I usually drink Extra Dry and all variations of it...

Toohey's! Oh no! I rest my case. :D
Little Creatures does some good beers if you can find it in your area. I like their pale ale, but it might be too strongly flavoured for you. Their other brews aren't so aggressive tho.
-
The only thing more obnoxious than the names of these beers are the pretentious people that drink them.
It's like when I hear a fellow american tell me they are going down to the "pub" to have a "pint". It makes me wanna punch them in the balls. lol
You are going to the bar to have a beer, jerkoff. ::)

Just be glad they don't invite you out to "drink some piss."

. sees no point in drinking if it's not to get fucked up,
theres is absolutely zero point in drinking alcohol if your not getting drunk.

Yeah i've heard of those, i've got a little local grog shop that sells alot of the lesser-known brands i might check it out but its convenient when you only pay 15 bucks for a 6-pack, god help us all if that ridiculous beer and wine tax passes, fucking bastards putting the thumb on a way to relax.

Nope. North of the 49th in a small(ish) city. Almost never buy beer retail. Just take a wander over and see what they have on their chalkboard. And their menu is similarly eclectic.
/oh, and they make their own cider, too! :)

I spent all day Sunday enjoying the weather and drinking Stowford press cider in my local's beer garden.
Still don't feel right today

not at all. in fact, beer above 12% is far from uncommon when you go into your strong abbey ales, and i heavily doubt the monks of trappist breweries are doing anything that anyone would call "cheating".
Are you familiar with the 'Reinheitsgebot'? In European breweries, especially in bavaria they are kind of anal about this. AFAIK, with regular barm, you will not get above 12-14%, because the barm disintegrates above that. If you wanna get higher you need to use different kinds of yeast, add sugar/alcohol or extract water.
-
theres is absolutely zero point in drinking alcohol if your not getting drunk.
you can still get buzzed off a few or even 1 if it's a strong drink and you don't drink a lot.

all unibroue is pretty good, with trois and monde being top of the list. far as i'm concerned, the best american (counting canada) breweries are, in no order:
1) unibroue
2) stone
3) dogfish head
4) rogue
5) Stoudt's
6) Victory

I don't drink all that fancy shit, and besides, nyc has all kinds of restrictions on alcohol levels of beers.
Forget Lee Priest's take, I think Fosters is a great beer.
I'm gonna pay a visit to a beer and tobacco shop in flushing. Hear they have some nice micro brewed stuff and imports as well. 8)

I just posted this in my fav thread "Gayer Than" but anyhow my place is having a "Christmas in July" Festival starting today with these beers on tap and 30 plus more-
Delirium Nocturnum, Paulaner Salvator, Grimbergen, Gouden Carolus Ambrio, Avec les Bons Voeux and Scaldis Noel

We just got a flying saucer here in kansas city, and that place is a god send for people who enjoy good beer.
Lately I have been on an Avery kick, and this is one of the best beers around.

bar around here has the delirium noel ready for "christmas in july" next week, and we just got the gouden carolus d'or for 2008. there's a few magnums in the basement from 2000 that cost $65 a pop, i'm tempted to pick one up.

I find oatmeal stouts to be sour.
If it's cold and then gets warm for too long (without serving), the taste can be ruined for good.
