Title: Reverse Grip Bench Press:
Post by: Montague on July 16, 2008, 05:04:39 AM
Does anyone do these for triceps?
I’ve tried them on flat and decline benches.

I haven’t performed them in almost 2 years, and I can’t remember why I stopped.
But I’m thinking of again incorporating them periodically for something a little different.

I use to do them, but the last time I tried them it was extremely awkward unracking the bar...and then when I got to the weight I was comfortable with, I ended up using too much shoulders, and that was the part that was sore the next day...not my triceps. I might use it for higher rep stuff outside of that, but heavy days are out for me currently.

Unracking was always the most awkward part for me as well, and I always took a handoff from a spotter. I never experienced shoulder discomfort, though.

M&F magazine (don’t laugh) a few years ago described doing rev grip presses on a decline bench. I did these every so often and they did produce a slightly different feel.

I’ve always hated conventional CG presses with an intense passion, and wondered if the reverse grip version was as effective for building size.

Hey, I just remembered…
My girlfriend is a physical therapist with access to an EMG machine at her facility.
Hmmmmm…
The wheels in my head are turning…

And I'm also quoting myself. ::)
Time for bed.

I never experienced shoulder discomfort, though.

It wasn't discomfort while doing the movement. It was DOMS the day after. To me, that means that my shoulders took the brunt of the load instead of my Triceps.

Sorry.
I got you now.
Wonder if declines would help that.
