When people do squats and they put the plates under their heels, what does that do for them? Does it help with balance?

if you have a hard time getting full depth, it helps you push with your heels instead of your toes and go the whole way down. i find it's too much stress on the knees, but then i'm starting to think that regular squats for bodybuilders is a lot less useful than front squats or hack squats.

I have long legs and find that squatting with my feet flat to the ground puts most of the stress on my knees
10 lbs plates under my heels changes this dynamic and transfers the stress to the muscles
I honeslty can't squat without them because my knees feel like they'll explode

I know when I started out squatting, doing that helped me squat a lot easier. Apparently it's good for squatting deep and bringing your vastus medialis into play.

more stress on the quads...less stress on the knee joint ;)

Stretch hamstring properly and you dont need to do that. Short hamstring destroys form and balance when squatting. Stiff leg dead lifts first with light weight and all the way before squatting helps too. But most people like to skimp out...
