Honestly, how many people would McCain have drawn?
BERLIN (AP) - Cheered by an enormous international crowd, Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama on Thursday summoned Europeans and Americans together to "defeat terror and dry up the well of extremism that supports it" as surely as they conquered communism a generation ago.
Obama said he was speaking as a citizen, not as a president, but the evening was awash in politics as the first-term U.S. senator sought to burnish his international credentials for the fall campaign at home. His remarks before a crowd estimated at more than 200,000 inevitably invited comparison to historic speeches in the same city by Presidents Kennedy and Reagan.
Now a presidential candidate himself, Obama borrowed rhetoric from his own appeals to campaign audiences this year in the likes of Berlin, N.H., as he spoke in one of the great cities of Europe.
"People of Berlin, people of the world, this is our moment. This is our time," he declared.
"The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand," Obama said, speaking not far from where the Berlin Wall once divided the city.
"The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes, natives and immigrants, Christians and Muslims and Jews cannot stand," he said.
Obama's speech was the centerpiece of a fast-paced tour through Europe designed to reassure skeptical voters in the U.S. about his ability to lead the country and take a frayed cross-Atlantic alliance in a new direction after eight years of the Bush administration.

His speech in Germany was a tremendous success!
This was where many of his detractors were hoping he'd fall on his face and really step into the doodoo.
He touched on a real hot-potatoe subject for Germany, namely increasing their support in Afghanistan under NATO.
Germany's involvement in Afghanistan is a point of controversy for the German people and Obama called for them to step up their support, ...and he didn't land himself in hot water in the process. Merkel couldn't even do that!

That liberal mccain blocked offshore drililng for 2+ decades, then suddenly changed positions 24 hours before Bush announced plans to lift his own exec ban.

In reality, what does 200,000 Germans showing up mean to me? Should I be surprised that liberal Europe showed up in huge numbers to watch an Obama speech? Should this make me vote for him? ::)

you make a good point.
Obama was telling the german people that they need to send more troops to fight in afghanistan. they were cheering. it means less american bloodshed if they can send troops so we can bring ours home.
What has mccain done this month to grow our afghanistan coalition so that more of our boys and girls can come home? Wait, nothing? Are you saying that Obama has done more to grow the worldwide coalition against terrorism, and more for getting our troops home to their families, than Mccai has?

The surge is jsut a really nice way of cleaning up a mess you shouldn't have made in the first place. If I break a jar of grape jelly on the rug but come up with a really witty way of cleaning it up, I don't deserve a fvcking cookie for cleaning up the mess. Why? cause I made the fvcking mess in the first place!

It's funny that no one has mentioned the fact that there were two very popular European bands playing a FREE concert before his speech and free food and drink were provided on top of that. Is it any wonder a shitload of mooching Krauts showed up for a speech like that?
