Title: Bodybuilding...shaping the present and embracing the past
Post by: NaturalWonder83 on July 24, 2008, 08:18:51 PM
Bodybuilding...what a crazy sport, right?!
Man, when I began my journey 9 years ago I had 1 thing in mind:get big arms to impress the ladies...now its 2008, and my motivation has changed.
Today I just sat back and reflected on all the ups and downs this sport has brought me. Food bills, supplement bills, gym bills, contest prep bills, and a whole lot more.
To me, bodybuilding is a lifestyle, a mindset, a certain way of conducting yourself.
Others may want it bad, but most dont want it enough.
Day in day out, never missing a meal...never missing a workout...never missing my 8 hours of sleep each night.
Skipping parties...skipping family gatherings...skipping fun...but was it worth it?
Yes and no.
Yes for the reason that I have the success and results I yearned for years ago.
No for the reason that I have the success and results I yearned for years ago, but had to miss all the fine things in my life to achive those results.
Watching dvds of Jay Cutler, Nasser el Sonbaty, Ronnie Coleman...they live the life and their life is bodybuilding. Their intesnity and dedication surpasses the majority of bodybuilders out there...but what about the few who are just as dedicated??? Because they are not 300lbs like these mass monsters, does that make them any less dedicated? Any less passionate? Any less of a bodybuilder?
I will continue to bodybuild until I die. It has given me the best years of my life.
Never forget the past, but never let the memories of the past restrict the present. Use the past as a tool for development...embrace the present and look ahead to the future...Don't focus too much on the future that you risk stalling in the present and never allowing yourself to experience the beauty of discovery.
Stay strong brothers.
