Post by: chainsaw on July 30, 2008, 05:53:01 AM
Fantastic interview.
Mike cant read or write.  Didn't know that.
Also, his bench is 600 NO SHIRT
815 squat with NO Belt, NO KNee wraps
760 deadlift no belt.

yes, mike is dyslexic since childhood, that's why he got into sports and bodybuilding so he could fit in and also be better than anyone else at something. so i have read in a previous article.

He hasn't overcome it yet? I know Jay Leno had it growing up
but can read cue cards reasonably well during his monologue.

I got no problem believing Mikes weights since I've seen a few
of his training clips and he is one strong mofo.

He says he's trying to deal with it the best he can,
it takes him a while to read scripts.

it takes him a while to read scripts.

So technically he CAN read and write, just very poorly. Big difference between that and not being able to read a word no matter how much he puts into it.

I have seen him lifting around 800lbs dead lift directly. He is strong.

I'am essentially quoting the magazine.
He graduated from school not being able to read and write,
and of course he is dealing with it the best he can.
It wasn't the main subject.

I'am rather impressed with his lifts.  I've seen him lifting heavy,
real heavy.

Matt C has a theory holding that intelligence and strength are inversely proportional in some people.  He says it's why retarded kids have super strength and why Kevin Levrone expresses his carbohydrate intake in milligrams.

Mike's the strongest person I've ever witnessed train and I doubt there are many people in the world hoisting the kind of weight Mike does year round on a daily basis.  Spartan diet year round.  He's one of a kind.  "Every day's a competition," to hear him tell it.

Van, he really is in my opinion.
You will not even see a pro lift like him.
He truely is hardcore.  And he smiles and laughs between sets.

I do not believe he is a total natural by any means,
but not jacked to the gills like a pro.

I have honestly had that very impression watching him squat...given his bodyweight, his form, everything...you just know there probably isn't anybody anywhere else doing what he's doing with it.

I dont beleive he can bench 600lbs, I heard, his max was 525lbs, which is still alot. But unless I  see it with my own eyes I wont beleive it.
I have seen Mike Ohearn train several time and he is pretty strong but not as strong as he claims in the magazine.

One-arm rows with 140-pounders isn't super great or anything.

I, too, do not believe the claims made. There's little doubt he's a hugely strong guy, but the weights being thrown about are more than a little hard to believe.

Oh I have no doubt that he's extremely strong. It's just that those lifts are slightly over what I feel he's capable of, the bench a lot over his true max.

I'm too lazy to look for his exact comp results but his comp maxes are way less than what was quoted here.

Yeah I don't know if he could bench 600 or not.  But you've gotta figure that if Chris Bell can get 525 with a shirt in that powerlifting competition he was in for Bigger, Faster, Stronger, that Mike could probably get it in a situation such as that.  I'm pretty sure I've seen him do 4 or 5 reps with 405 on the bench before and they were perfect form.  Slow.

chainsaw said that bench was without a shirt though. Obviously impossible if he only does 5 reps with 405. With a shirt? Sure, not hard to believe at all.

A raw 800+ squat? Same thing.

Don't know how old this interview is but

Quote
O'Hearn's best competitive lifts include a 505-pound bench press, a 760 squat and a 733 deadlift at a bodyweight of 242.

Those are his equipped lifts. Or were.

Alright well I'm out of this because to be honest with you I can't even remember exactly what I've seen him do.  LOL  It might have been 455 I've seen him do for 4.  I can't recall for sure.  I'll say this, though...if he really can't read or write then that's the only thing that could explain why he is so superhumanly strong like he is and actually natural...as much of a handicap his lacking literacy must be for him, he's just as gifted on the other end of it physique/strength-wise.
