DAMN! This team better shape up or they'll be sitting at home come October.
-
Well at least Manny is a team player.
-
Yes, Manny RamirEz has a great approach to the team mentality.

Haha.last night Manny said the should trade him to Green Bay :D
-
I still don't get why Florida wouldn't just trade their prospects to Pittsburgh and get Bay themselves, instead of renting Manny for less than half a year.
Bay's owed something like 7M next year, which they can afford. I don't think they're a "Manny" away from a WS title.
-
Haha, sox will be in the ws hunt, mark it down.

How are the fans in Boston taking this Manny drama ???

We are used to it. Manny has been a pain in the ass for years. If we get Jason Bay for him, I think a lot of fans would drive Manny to the airport at this point. Manny is a great player, but he is starting the downside of his career.
Sox have a great team, they will right the ship and play well when it matters.

You've been saying that for a month now. They're really proving you right by getting worse by the week.
Safe to say that the Sox of this year aren't anywhere near as good as years past. Their away record is absolutely pathetic. If they don't get home field advantage, methinks they'll be going home mighty early.....if they even make that playoffs that is.

You are calling a team that is virtually the same as last years World Series team inferior. Teams go through funks, and you should know that considering how the Yankees played for half the year. This team is distracted right now, and that distraction is about to get traded for Jason Bay. Its a marathon not a sprint, and as bad as things are right now, the sox are STILL in the thick of the playoff race. I'm not worried about it.
The Red Sox will play their best baseball when it matters. The time when the Yankees start to fall apart, and get sent home in the first round of the playoffs. I remember when the Yankees turned it on late last year, yankees fans started talking, then they crashed and burned in the playoffs. Same story, different year.

But let's be real here. Boston usually falls apart around now (which they're doing) and they barely stumble into the playoffs. It happens every year. The only difference is that last year they had a 15 game lead and still needed a blown umpire call on the last weekend of the regular season to win the division. With the Yanks on their heels and the D-Rays still kicking, they're in a much different position. Playing their usual mid-July to early October .500 ball isn't going to cut it this year.
Also, they are terrible on the road this year. They've now been swept by the Angels twice in the last month. The Angels are only getting better, while Boston keeps regressing. They're playing like the weakest team with a record over .500 in the AL right now.

They will turn it on late....I believe that is how it will go. I think their weakness is the pen, but I think Masterson and internal help is the answer. I think Manny is a big distraction right now, and getting rid of him will right the ship. As much as people are saying Tampa is the best team in the MLB, I have a gut feeling that the bombers and the sox will have a showdown for the pennett.
Thats how I see it.

The Yankees will only get to the playoffs if they get another decent 4-5 starter. Rasner and Ponson will not get them through August.
For the sox, I really don't think Manny's off field stuff is affecting the on field play. They're just getting beat right now.

I do, large chunks of the offense are slumping. Did you see the game last night, tons of mental mistakes, an uncovered bag, and lethargic play. I think players are sick of the media circus. Ob its not the soul reason, there are guys playing like shit, but I think the team is sick of the drama. From the fight Manny had with Youk - to his comments about the sox not deserving him. The sox players are sick of this crybaby.

Yes, but I don't think guys are thinking about that stuff when they're playing ball.
Well, Manny's gone now apparently so it's moot.
I, as a Yankee fan, am happy to see him go. Bay's good, but Manny clobbered NY.

Boston just got better! I am very excited about this trade, and it will free up money to go after picthing next year, awesome. Manny was one of the greatest Red Sox to ever play, but he is on the downside of his career. I think manny was wearing on the sox, on and off the field. Guys cant focus when reporters are up their ass over Manny.
Awesome move.

Can you explain how they got better for this year, because I don't see it. It's a wash at best.
Plus, they didn't address their real need, unless there's some other trades to come in last minute.

They got better, because they got rid of a guy who punched teamates in the face, threw old sox legends to the ground, and had a media frenzy in the club house every night. They replaced him with a guy with comparable production, and better defensive skills. Also, they will have some extra money to throw around next year. Manny is on the back nine of his career. The pen issues are going to be dealt with from within. The sox have some issues, but who doesent?
What happened with the sox in 04? Who did they trade ( when things where going bad)? It sparked the team and the won a title that year.

Ha-ha, here we are in September, the sox are one game behind the Rays, the Yankees are done for the season, and the sox are playing the best ball of the year! Exactly how I said it would happen!

Papleblown.

Oh please, you expect him to save every game? Don't hate the sox being two games out of the Division lead, 5 games up on the wild-card and playoff bound!
The yanks can watch from home, AGAIN! ;D
-
body,
Are the sox better equipped for a best of 5 or best of 7 vs. Anaheim. Legitimate question.

Hell no, but experience and being hot at the right time can mean a lot! I Lester, Beckett and Dice can turn it up for the playoffs, we have as good a shot as anyone.

I agree with that, but I should have been clearer.
I mean, what gives the sox the best shot at beating Anaheim, winning the WC and playing them best of 5, or winning the division and likely getting them in a best of 7?

Experience, the fact that the sox have owned the Angels up until recently.... When playing their best, the sox are a top team talent-wise. The sox starting pitching has a dominant record in the playoffs. The offense is capable of scoring a lot of runs, and they have overcome3 game series differentials twice to win WS titles.
