Title: Gallup Daily: Obama 45%, McCain 44%
Post by: headhuntersix on July 31, 2008, 02:14:43 PM
The race for the presidency has moved back into a statistical tie in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update of national registered voters, with Barack Obama now ahead of John McCain by just one percentage point, 45% to 44%

And depending on who u read...state by state is tighning up as well. Yeah yeah i know polls don't mean much but with the Euro tour etc...Obama has problmes, the same problems he had after early postive results against Hil.  Hil smoked him in all the late races. The LA times has an interesting article on why he's not pulled ahead. Either way..he should be ahead and he isn't. He's not going to get any bounce from the Convention because a bounce is a result of postive media coverage, which he would be sure to get. However the Repub convention is right after the Dem's party. The media will go from the Olympics to Denver to the Repub's.

Race is a dead heat.

Only nationally.  We don't have a national election, however.

Would you say things are in a 'dead heat' in the state-by-state polls, which are actually the only polls which matter?

FYI kids...

Nationwide polls are great for cable news to have something to talk about.  They know the average viewer (and it seems posters here) cannot understand our electoral college system, and realize that state polls are the only ones that matter.

Besides, if MSNBC or FOX came on every day and said "McCain couldn't possibly win in electoral college without stealing 5 states from Obama and winning every undecided state right now", would anyone watch?

No.  But when it's 45 to 44%, the illusion of a real contest is there.

I've seen maps with McCain down by only 15 e votes...and others by 30 with a greater undecided margin...so nothing matters until the debates...my point has been all along that Obama should be way ahead..but he;'s not.
