because the month in the gregorian calendar has 30.43 days (365.2425/12) while the length of a lunation is only 29.53 days, every 8 months there is a month with 5 phases

for example there will be 2 new moons next month

in the case in which the phase that repeats is that of full moon, the second full moon is said blue moon
