stop thinking about quanity of calories, and shift your focus onto quality of calories
lean protein, complex carbs, and good fats and essential fats

i dont like commercial weight gainers-u could make your own meal repalcement shake-whey protein isolate, 1 cup of slow cooked oats, frozen berries, and a tablespoon or two of all natural peanut butter.

Actually, you should be thinking about BOTH quality and quantity, in terms of calories.

As far as how long you should use a gainer, Rome wasn't built in a day. I'd say at least three months. As for which one you should use, the weight gainers are much better than they were 10 years ago, when I was using them.

It appears that the most economical one, at present time, is Ultimate Nutrition's IsoMass Xtreme Gainer. A 10-lb jug goes for $51. Of course, if you get it at GNC, during Gold Card week, that price drops to around $41. If you find some that's marked down AND use the card, you can get it for even less.

Bare minimum, you should use two shakes per day, along with at least three regular meals. Depending on your schedule, I'd recommend the second shake be taken right after your workout.

If, your metabolism (and wallet) can afford it, I'd go three shakes along with three high-quality meals.

I'd say go with Atlarge nutrition's maximus. I've been on it for a few months now...actually a few of us here on this board have and love it. Tastes great (i take chocolate) and for the serving size/per price along with the quality, it's as good as it's going to get.  As far as meal replacement and weight gainers go, i've yet to find one better. Plus, it has ETS in it, which is a DOMS destroyer for sure!

If you got a problem getting enough calories id suggest a gainer only after working out. but of course any food would do the trick as good or better. maybe you can grab a burger and drink some coke instead

Actually thats why i want a weight gainer, I work 8-10hrs a day 5-6 days a week i only get 2 10 minute breaks and 1 half hour lunch i can only get maybe 2 regular meals a day.

Its hard to get quality calories in this kind of situation.

My shakes go as follows

atleast 50gms protein per shake nothing thrown in

1 before workout 25gms protein
1 after workout 50 gms protein ( Try to grab some bread or pasta along with that

3 at 50gms protein for work and possibly 1 at 50gms protein right before i head in for work.

i have to make them all before work.

thats plenty of protein alright but it doesnt add up to a hell lot of calories unless you mix it with milk.

I just dont have alot of time to get in my carbs during the day

( Well atleast not enough time to sit down and eat quality carbs )

yeah protien doesn't mean gaining weight..eat for the size you WANT to be..not the size you are. That seems to make it easier for people. I'd say for good strength and size gains, eat 25 cals per pound of body weight. That worked WONDERS for me when I first started powerlifting.. I'd still eat that way now if i wasn't trying to stay within reach of the 242's.

I'll drink a GNC blend for breakfast, since I usually hate eating solid food until lunch.  But as for "weight gaining," you can't go wrong with whole milk--or if you're satty fat-conscious, 1%.  Drink a gallon per day in addition to your normal diet, and you'll pack on some serious muscle.  Some fat along the way, too, but that's inevitable.

The closest thing to a weight gainer that's ever worked for me is two scoops of a protein blend,  heavy cream, and peanut butter.  I have tried two commercial weight gain products and all they did was make me fat and lethargic.

right there with ya buddy! There will be times where I'll go a week drinking a gallon of milk a day and the way I feel is great! I just drink a big glass int eh morning with breakfast, drink it with  my shakes, have it for snacks, etc. When you think about it it's not really that expensive and the amount of good macro's in it is ridiculous. Though chocolate milk i'd like better HAHA! think about it.. if you go out to eat everyday at least once for fast food and spend 5-8 bucks, a gallon of milk will be SO much more beneficial.
