Seriously, for being the "official magazine of the IFBB", they sure don't have their shit together. I haven't seen an issue come out on time for at least the last 6 months. According to the one with Zane on the cover the new one should have been out Monday, and they haven't even updated their website with the new one, let alone shipped it to stores yet. And I only know of 2 stores out of about 20 that even carry it anymore.
And before anybody else says "why buy mags when you have the internet," my legs get too hot reading my laptop when I take a dump.

Well...being that we just celebrated our 25th anniversary...not anytime soon.
Not only has the Zane cover been out for a while, but the newest one with Jay/ Dex is already out.

wireless internet connection or phone jack in the bathroom?

Almost every issue of Flex has at least one picture labeled incorrectly as someone it is not, especially in those sections in front of the mag with candid shots.
Very professional.

who reads that crap besides teenagers with unattainable dreams......you have a better chance of getting hit by a bus in a july snowstorm than you have becoming a pro

I had a subscription for over 5 years, during which time I had maybe a dozen issues delivered on time, if at all. It was more work than it was worth to always call customer service to have them send me a new one every month, so I scrapped that idea.
I know the Zane cover has been "out" for a while, and it's STILL on every newsstand that I've seen that even has Flex. Nobody has the one that, according to last month's, should have been released August 11. The Flex WEBSITE doesn't even have the new cover posted, which seems rather odd since they've updated it with other information. Like I said, this isn't the first month I've noticed it.
I have nothing against Flex whatsoever, I've read it for probably over 10 years now. What I am curious about is the stability of a magazine that lacks the ability to put their product out to the general public on time on a consistant basis. I would wager that you make most of your money from newsstand sales, not subscriptions at 1/3 the price, so it seems like that might be a complaint that you should actually note, not just tell me to "get a subscription."

Back to taking dumps with with your laptop...
It's awesome, isn't it?
-
Flex magazine is terrible - worst, most minimal contest coverage
back in the day the Pittsburg Pro would have 8-10 pages - these days the Europa is barely 2
I only buy MD

I'm always too afraid to bring the laptop. I fear that somehow, I will find a way to electrocute myself, and my wife will find me, pants down, a load in the toilet, and the computer open to a website dedicated to debating large, hairless, mostly-nude men. How awesome would that obituary be?

Speaking of which, I thought Koloseum (Milos' gym) was the "official" gym for Flex photoshoots? Chris Lund was at our gym yesterday (Club MetRx) shooting some new pro from France.
-
got the new Flex with Cutler on the cover a couple weeks ago. I wish they did more contest stuff. But based on the crowds at some of the pro shows, I can see why they dont cover contests as much. People dont seem to care about contests like they used to, except for a few hundred die-hards.

FLEX subscription sucks!
Your local gas station/supermarket will have a copy before you do in the mail. >:(

Mags like newspapers are losing readership to online resources. Flex will continue for some time, but will probably eventually go by the wayside or will continue to add more ads and less content, like everyone else. (BB mags are like women's magazines these days, with 60% ads and 40% content.) Only thing that can keep them going is by continuing to put out content that you can't find online (like the interview with Dex and Jay in this most recent issue of FLEX; anyone else think that Jay sounded like a dick and that Dex sounded like a class act?).

Musclemag!!! ;D

"Does Flex Magazine have their stuff together?" Really? What mod changed that, and can you come up with a better title if you're going to change mine?

Because saying a magazine goes under because your subscription and mail is coming late is truly funny. They run 12 issues a year, they come out on time here in Southern California, and because yours is a little late... it means the magazine is going under. That is bull.
In terms of getting the company that is bringing the magazine to you, aka third class postage, they might of delayed it into getting your copy. But since I know that Flex Magazine gets its issues on time every month, a claim like that is not cool.
Bottom line, no they are no going under; and yes, they have their stuff together.

I mentioned that I cancelled my subscription because they could never get it to me earlier in the thread. My original post mentioned that it's never out at the NEWSSTANDS here on time, and maybe 2 out of 20 booksellers carry it, when less than a year ago I used to be able to find it everywhere. Not only that, but they can't even update the company WEBSITE with the current issue info until long after the new issue supposedly hits the stands. These don't sound like signs of a company that has their shit together to me.
Again, I've been reading it and I don't have any problem with the magazine itself. But tell me that if the New Yorker started showing up late on the newsstands and was available at less than half the usual places, you wouldn't question if the magazine was having issues.

The last issue says the next issue will be on the 11th, and the site was updated on the 13th...that doesn't seem like "long after" does it? As for less contest coverage, that would be because the nature of contest coverage has changed to updating the site as the event happens, and then doing a small report in the book with reference to EVERY photo on the site. It seems to me that that is better than 10 pages in the book with only some photos 2 months after the show the way it used to be.
We don't control all the distribution channels, when it gets to different parts of the country etc, so unfortunately we don't have control over every place getting the issues exactly when they should. The best we can do is produce it on time and ship it out.
Sometimes there will be a slight delay on the site, especialy ona contest week where the info is being updated daily with different previews etc. Normally someone wouldn't take that to mean that the magazine was going under, it would be seen as a slight oversight.

Considering that the Muscle and Fitness site gets updated several days prior to a new issue release date, I think it's at the very least "interesting."

I never complained about the contest coverage.

I found it interesting that it used to be available at almost any newsstand I could find. Now I deliberately have to search for it - only 3 out of probably 20 newsstands I can think of have it with any sort of consistency. It usually goes that fewer places stocking it = lower sales = questionable future.
Seriously though, when it's easier for me to find MuscleMag and Ironman than Flex, what should I think?

Others were complaining about contest coverage.
What area do you live in? Out here in California it is pretty much at the same places all the time.

I live in Sacramento, and like I said, I used to see it everywhere. In the last year I've seen 2 Borders, 2 Barnes and Noble, 3 Raley's, a Bel Air, and at least 2 or 3 Safeways stop carrying it. Yet at least half those places still carry Muscle Mag, MD, and Iron Man. Even 2 out of 3 WalMarts around here don't have it anymore.

A lot of the larger carriers have cut back on titles in general. Walmart has actually trimmed 1000 titles from what they carried at this time last year, including some very well known mags. But those are retailers that are still on our distribution list. Thanks for the info on Sacramento, I will look into it.

Do you live in a big city or in BFE? I see it on the newstands in grocery & convenience stores in Denver all over the place and it is usually on newstands around the same time I get my issue in the mail.

Isn't that where all the "girlie-men" (save Arnold) live? No wonder they don't get the magazine there. ;D
