Title: Sauna Question
Post by: osakachero on August 16, 2008, 08:02:03 AM
I've heard several times that it is detrimental to use the sauna after a weight lifting work out so I always avoided it.  But today I sat in the sauna for ten minutes for no particular reason.  Didn't seem to be harmful in any way.  In fact I looked a lot more dry after expelling so much sweat.

Is there any there any proof that going in the sauna after a workout is bad?  Let me know what you think.

I can't see any reason why it would be bad for you but at the same time I'm not sure why you'd want to take a sauna immediately after training anyway - get some protein in you instead and go home. Use the saunas on your off days to keep the skin decent but other than that, I wouldn't use them on training days.

Sauna after work out is good

Try taking cold showers between, you'll feel great

Basically same hot/cold treatment that trainers/fysical therapetist will recommend with sore muscles and so

Sauna dehydrates you so maybe thats why somaone think its bad postworkout?

Drink alot!

Sauna is good in any circumstances, provided you are generally healthy and don't have blood pressure problems or anything like that.
It is very relaxing on the muscle tissue and is also a cleansing procedure as it gets rid of a lot of wastes in your system, like lactic acid and toxins.
Olympic weightlifters, swimmers, and many other pro athletes have sauna as a mandatory part of their sport life.
Just don't go crazy with 120*C for two hours, like some boxers I've seen who tried to loose weight for contest.
