Title: The 100m dash lineup
Post by: aliamini on August 16, 2008, 11:22:08 PM

My first impression of the line up was … Ben and Michael Johnson looked like bodybuilders (even Dwayne Chambers) they actually looked like athletes (muscular) today they all looked like regular people who workout once a week … or even but of lean (skinny) average Joes

My memories from teh olympics is maybe having 10 americans in the quarter finals of the 100m.

What happened? Did they send as many sprinters as normal?

They all looked much smaller than in previous years

Shame Michael Johnson was never a 100m runner.

They train for explosiveness, so no wonder they add muscle size..

Yes. Tall people are taking over most respectable sports.
In swimming i also saw a lot of tall fuckers.

Alan Wells is the last white guy I remember being in the blocks for a 100Ms, and that was a long time ago.

He was only there cos the americans never showed up...won it in a tainted final with an average time for a final

Moscow, lots never turned up that year.

Black people are just better sprinters

this brings up the question of nature vs nurture!

In a lot of third world countries sports  is looked upon as a way out of poverty.  For track and field there is no over head cost, just start running. The faster that you run the better your chance of getting out of poverty. The most extreme exampe of this is in Kenya. At very early age kids are placed in "running factories" that churn out world class marathoners.

baseball in Cuba! you do good and your entire family will proper

The same for soccer in brazil and other latin american countries.  In england there is a soccer acadamy on every block (hyperbole but you get the point).

In the US, in black neighborhood basketball is viewed in the same manner
more and more in Europe basketball is turning in a factory which churn out players.

go in to any neighborhood in the US (white, black, latino)  and no one is doing track and field or soccer and thus our results in those sports will be limited.

Minorities will always do well in sports where the barrier to entry in minimal or governmentally funded.

for soccer a ball is $10 and involves 22 people
a basketball is $10 and involves 10 people

In cuba baseball equipment is free for the most part, and is run in a formal manner.

And there's also the possibility that all these slaves from jamaica are juicing.

thats because you have raised your standards

Your mind automatically compares a physique to an IFBB pro bodybuilder so really you won't be impressed by most people

I remember Patrick Stevens reaching the finals of the 100m, i think 8 years ago.
He has a kid with Denise lewis (English world-class heptahtlete).

There have been whites winning some sprinting events in the last decades also, but it's safe to say they were juiced to the gills (like that greek couple).

i just don't think the jamaicans are all of a suddent the best sprint nation in the world because their lack of intelligence, money or training knowledge.  I mean, the people there are dumber than shit.  bob marley died because he wouldn't have a procedure done on his cancerous toe.

The top sprinters in teh world are from jamacia, and other less than ffluent countries though. Surely if it was all nurture then the richest people would be doing the best in all sports (true to an extent cycling equestrian fencing etc expensive sports and rich people exceed as there is hardly a showjumping ground on every block unlike a basketball hoop)
