I think the first 4 minutes is an ok song (nothing like the old days) the 2nd half of the song is a mish mash jam session that sounds like several different songs cover attempts.

Exactly

metallica's first 4 albums kick ass. everything after that has been shit.

yep

The were better on the dope.
They are forcing the writing.

Heard it last night... :(

Black Album.....
-
I like everything up until Stanger. That was basically the 'unfinished' album. This sounds like a more finished and better but still unfinished album-if all the songs are like this one. James' voice, unfortunately is not like it was-I think it was best around the S&M album. I don't know if it's gone or he is just singing differently but you can tell he's trying to much and there's too much 'uah' on the end of every line.
-
Heard the new song today. It's almost like they are trying too hard to get back to their early days. Didn't really care for the song at all.
-
The subpar thrash metal band "Metallica" died in 1986
-
Hetfield sounds like a country singer.. sad.
-
I forced myself to try to like St. Anger.
It didn't work.
The sad truth is that I'm not interested enough in a new Metallica record to even bother infringing its copyright.
-
James gets worse on every cd, this new one sounds like some garage band trying to be old school metallica and failing miserably...
-
where do u listen? :D

I heard it yesterday and today. It was good, not great. They finally got rid of that walking tumor Bob Rock, so it doesn't sound too slick or overproduced. Kirk does some solo work that even he'll have a hard time topping towards the end of it.

Metallica - The Day That Never Comes 2008 ????????????????????
-
I wish James would just stop trying to be a singer and yell again. He just ruins the song now.
-
I thought it sucked too, what little bit I heard of it this morning. I hope Lars is happy that he made James sober up.
-
They should have quit after MOP. Horrible singer and the worst drummer in metal.
-
kinda slow, 2nd half was okay...
hope this isn't the 'best' song on the album
-

It's a really good song and people need to stop the hating it give this album a chance, the single is already #2 on I-tunes in 2 days.
The last thing people need is a review from a guy who started a massive thread on the release of "Tha Carter 3" by Little Wayne........how gay....oh brother.

There are quite a few gems on And justice.. so no.

And the black album as well, it's only sold 20 MILLION copies worldwide...
How do you haters not think that "Sad but True" isn't a classic song..

Metallica's output is now in decline. I think the Black album set the standard too high for them.
I personally think they're breaking up soon. James and the Swedish guy I mean.

There was probably 3 songs on that album that were good... The rest sucked. Wherever I may Roam, Sandman, and Of Wolf and Man were the only songs I liked.
AJFO was their last great album... Everything after was pretty much crap.
-
I almost can't believe this has happened though. I actually like everything up until St. Anger. Load and Reload and S&M are good by me. They always put their Metallica spin on it and it's always good. But St. Anger and so far DM don't even have that signature-the awesomeness signature which it seemed like James used to bring to the table almost inherintly.
-
There's another new Metallica tune up at metallica.com. My Apocolypse. Some of you might like it more, definitely a throw back to the old days-theirs some real good guitar work on it, actual real different kind of stuff for KH. I actually started to really dig The Day That Never Comes.
-
they suck hairy dog balls now :(
-
I haven't hear it yet, but Lars is a fucking dick head.

Fucck you. Nobody cares what you think anyway.

Haha, would you not agree? Have you ever seen an interview with him? Do you know anything about them? And his famous cuntish streak? Thought not.

sounds like they took the lyrics out of battery and added new ones to it.
so if you like battery and want to hear a poor mans version of it, there it is :-\
-
it sucks, and I agree, Metallica died in 1986. Master of Puppets was their last good album.
-
yeah he is a dick, so what? just don't buy his music.
Okay.
-
Heard it again and liked it better the second time.
-
I've actually started liking the new song and I checked out YouTube and heard some of the other riffs that are coming up and I think they're gonna do ok on this one. The band is absolutey huge. Hetfield said on the radio the other day they intend to continue making music on into their 60's like the Rolling Stones have. Plenty of time for redemption. But listening to that XM channel you realize how VAST their catolog is.
-
this is music
-
I was a fan through And Justice for All...then they became more mainstream and average.

I think it's gonna be better than st anger and reload, but not better than the first 5 obviously...

I take back what I said about The Day that Never Comes. It's really grown on me now.

Greatest band of all time!
The first four albums were great, "Kill'em All" being the 4th best of that group IMO. The "Black" album, just as good as Puppets or Justice. it has better production quality, that's the major difference in that album from the first four and for some reason some view this as wrong in the metal world...makes no sense. The "Black" album is as metal as any metal album ever.
"Load" & "Re-Load" good albums, but not as good as the first five...still good though. If any other band in the world had done either of those albums they would have been huge hits. Metallica is like an actor that gets type cast and if he ventures from that even slightly people hate it. "King Nothing" "Ain't My Bitch" "Fuel" "The Memory Remains" all fantastic songs.
"S&M" hit or miss, a few songs are actually better though on this album i.e. "No Leaf Clover" "Hero of the Day"
"Garage INC" decent cover album, "Mercyful Fate" Whiskey in the Jar" good songs.
"St. Anger" awful...even Metallica will admit this. Horrible production quality, even worse with the drums and that odd sounding snare they put in there...just plain bad.
"Death Magnetic" the first two songs released, there is nothing wrong with these songs. "The Day that Never Comes" very much along the lines of "Fade to Black" with the first half, and when it kicks in, some very familiar riffs comparable to "...And Justice for ALL." "My Apocalypse" very reminiscent of "Dyers Eve"...fantastic intro.
Metallica, greatest band of all time!

Agreed. I think Load is damn solid album. Reload, slightly less solid but still good and if it were anyone else's it would be an AWESOME album. St. Anger is almost unlistenable and DM sounds like it's going to be ok.
-
They suck.
-
black album was way more mainstream than the first 4.
yes production quality was better, but the other albums did not have catchy singles like 'enter sandman'
agree with you sort of on load/reload.
good albums, but bad metallica albums.
good songs were unforgiven 2, bleeding me, outlaw torn (personal favorite)
st anger was indeed a lame ass effort POS.
the new album is not exactly comparable to AJFA, not at all really.
the 2nd half of day that never comes sounds like a disjointed jam session without any semeblence of a structure.
Cyanide is an extremely terrible sounding turd of a song. Hopefully that is the only one.

They've got another 3 songs up on their site, http://metallica.com/index.asp?item=601197. Serisously, this is some of the best guitar work ever for them, but for the first time James is not doin as well as the other guys...kind of ruins it slightly.
-
Be patient people, this is the best Metallica record since Master of Puppets.......
The 3 songs that are out already, My Apocolypse, The Day That Never Comes and Cyanide are the worst 3 on the record.
Judas Kiss, All Nightmare Long, Broken Beat & Scarred , End of the Line and This was just your life, are going to blow people away.
These are all 7-8 minute classic 80's style Metallica...
-
Judas kiss, all nightmare long, broken beat scarred are all good. Seriously if they can mix the vocals of Black album-S&M with the metal of Justice/Master...then you've got something almost un-beatable, but the vocals aren't there on this one.

I disagree, maybe you are listening to a bad copy, on clean versions, I think this record is some of Hetfields strongest vocals in years.
I know some of the MP3 leaks are very shitty quality.

They're now listed as "modern rock" on metal-archives. Hahahaa, owned shitallica.
But it's no news, they haven't produced anything "metal" since 1986.

exactly , I laugh at the fangirls that think the black album is classic metallica!
metallica died with cliff, after that it has become a bubble gum pop band for the masses.

Whatever kind of metal you want to call it, it is metal all the same. The big difference in that album compered to the previous ones is nothing more then production quality. How does that make a metal album, non metal?

Sorry but Jason Newsted is a far better bass player then Cliff Burton...he's actually one of the better bass players in the music world. Cliff was a good bassist, that's true, but a lot of people like him over Jason simply because he is from some of the older albums.
