Title: Optimum Nutrition Sells Company!
Post by: ScottWelch on August 25, 2008, 10:05:43 AM
The company that has bought Optimum Nutrition is called “Glanbia” which is headquartered in Ireland but has divisions around the world including Canada, U.S., Europe, U.K. and Nigeria to name a few. Glanbia employs 4.900 people and just last year their revenues totaled $2.2 billion which gives you an indication of just how large they are!  Optimum is easily the top-5 largest sports nutrition companies in the U.S. and Canada right now with brands ‘Optimum Nutrition’ , ‘Gold Standard 100% Whey’ and ‘AMERICAN BODY BUILDNG’ leading the pack. The total consideration for the acquisition is $315 million dollars.

They used to have a good tasting array of protein powder.  The Mint Chocolate and the Cookies and Cream one I remember as being pretty good.

I see now they have nearly 20 flavors.  What is the best in your opinion?

yeah, I used to get stuff from them all the time.  Their Cookies n cream is the best tasting whey out there, IMO.  Was a bummer that they shut down shop.  The letter said they're only selling to dealers now, and that if I want to buy protein by the case, look them up.  Otherwise, just buy it from bodybuilding.com

Is that the only place to get it now?  ???

I get ON Whey usually from Amazon.  It used to drop periodically down to $55 for a 10lb bag, with free shipping.   That hasn't happened for awhile, though.

Cookies and Cream is easily the best tasting.

nah, they listed a few different sites, but BBing.com was the only one I recall.  I stocked up on cookies n creme when I got their warning email.

I buy ON from the Vitamin Shoppe. It's always in stock. The double chocolate is my favorite. I go through a tub every 2 weeks.

It is useful in that I can eat more cookies or whatever Goat Cheese Pizza, delicacy etc...that I decide to cook up.  Gets the protein out of the way.

Optimum was already customer of Glanbia's buying raw whey protein and other dairy proteins from them.  This takeover will likely drive the price they charge for the various protein supplements even lower which will be great for consumers (not so great for their competitors!) Also, since Glanbia has facilities in Ireland, Canada, U.K., Europe, U.S. and Nigeria expect distribution in these countries to become even more efficient and price to be lowered.

Glanbia (Irish for "Quality Food") are fast becoming one of the worlds biggest whey specialists, my dad used to business with them way back (specialist stainless steel welding for factory installations).

A couple of years ago I contacted them to ask about a bulk order of their 94% pure whey protein isolate... if I remember correctly the price was ridiculously low, something like $100 for a 50 kg barrel... but they wouldn't deal with me unless I wanted to order ten barrels.

Just goes to show how grossly over-priced sports (bb) supplements really are.

TA, used to be vanilla for me, but now it's called vanilla ice cream or something like that.  There isn't much flavor difference for me.  It's always been my favorite protein.

Used to be able to get a 10lb. bag for about $35 plus shipping online about 6 years ago, but now it's much higher.  So I'm hoping this buyout does in fact lower the prices back down  ;D

ON makes some quality products.  Hope nothing changes.

If anything, the quality control will be even better than ealier (not that it was poor eaerlier by any standars). Optimum will really kick MuscleTech´s boney ass. I would assume people are already sick of their BS marketing. Indeed, MuscleTech is a marketing firm, not a manufacturer like Optimum. In sum, buy from Optimum and tell MuscleTech punks to go fuck themselfs. If MT would give a shit about the product value and their consumers, they would invest on own manufacturing facilities.

"fuck themselfs"

I guess misspelled vulgarity is good for getting a point across.

Mannien = no credibility.

There are two studies on GAKIC. However, once I tasted powdered GAKIC (that is, unflavored bulk powder) I realized they were not truly placebo controlled. Btw, I wrote my first MD GAKIC article when nobody was selling it.
