Ken Shamrock will be the fourth man to face Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson when the two icons clash at EliteXC’s third installment of “Saturday Night Fights” Oct. 4 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. The headlining bout will anchor a live broadcast on CBS.
The 44-year-old Shamrock (26-13-2) beat out fellow candidates Sean Gannon and Brett Rogers, who called out Slice in May, for the coveted slot.
Shamrock, a 15-year veteran of the game who made his storied Octagon debut at UFC 1 in November 1993, has dropped his last five bouts in a row since 2005, including a lackluster showing against brawler Robert Berry at Cage Rage 25 last March.
However, “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” exudes substantial selling power for a match now only five and a half weeks away. A strong personality in and out of the cage, Shamrock’s 15 appearances in the UFC earned him international recognition alongside his original nemesis Royce Gracie .
Slice (3-0) earned a third-round victory against Brit James Thompson in his last foray for EliteXC in May. The bout was much criticized for its questionable officiating, placing Ferguson’s skill set in doubt after Thompson held the advantage for sizable stretches of the 11-minute contest. Ferguson holds previous wins over David "Tank" Abbott and Bo Cantrell.

Smart move on Elites part. If Kimbo wins, he is a beast who beat the worlds most dangerous man. If Kimbo loses, he was beat by a MMA veteran and it will be no big deal.
They are not going to put him with a young upcoming fighter anytime soon.
Let's look at Kimbo's record.
Fight #1 Kimbo beat up a old washed up boxer with hepatitis.
Fight #2 Fixed.
Fight #3 Beat up an old washed up drunk. That fight was fixed as well.
Fight #4 JT controlled the entire fight and took every punch Kimbo had directly on the chin. JT has the weakest chin in MMA and Kimbo couldn't KO JT. That fight was fixed as well.
Fight #5 Ken Shamrock. How long has it been since Ken has won a fight?
-
This oughta be good......
-
Unless it's fixed, Ken will murder Kimbo, even though he is 10 yrs past his prime...
-
YOU READ IT HERE FIRST!!!
SHAMMY BY BRUTAL TOE HOOK...AHAHAHAHAHAHA
-
Seriously. I know Ken is way past his prime and that he has been steadily sliding down hill for years. But, he does have real skills and the ability to show up well conditioned. Unless fixed, there is Kimbo is fucked.
-
I bet Ken Shamrock was told that he could not take Kimbo down to the ground as one of the conditions of the fight :-\

Won't be the first time....... :o

As much as I want Ken to beat Kimbo I doubt it'll happen. I hope I'm wrong though.
His reaction time has slowed considerably even though the skill is there. He's no Randy couture. I hope his experience will give him an edge to pull off a submission victory.
Ken is one of those old school tough guys and I hope he has a good gameplan other than stand there and slug it out. He beat one of my favorite fighters, Bas rutten twice back in his heyday.
While we're bringing out the old timers why not bring back the predator Don Frye? :D.
How about Gilbert Yvel Vs kimbo - Gilbert would tear kimbo apart.
-
ken would never be part of a fix in a fight.he has to much respect for the game for that.if kimbo beats him its because he beats him period
-
Don Frye = God

Exactly. Shammy should win this one, unless caught. I don't think he can take a bomb from Kimbo at this point in his game.

Elite realizes that they can't afford to have Kimbo lose yet (they are kinda in sink or swim mode right now), they need to get both him and Gina more mainstream exposure to the casual audience of CBS and build them both in the process, just like they will be building Cyborg as Gina's eventual opponent, and Brett Rogers as Kimbo's eventual opponent, which I think will lead to Elite's first attempt at a PPV.

LOL. Sure ::)

Lots of money to be lost in this thread...lol.
Kimbo will beat the fuck out of Shamrock. I want Ken to win but it just isn't going to happen. :'(

True, but if Ken wins then all of a sudden "he's back" and they have the "worlds most dangerous man"...could work both ways since most of the general population has no clue what type of rocky road he's been down. To them he could still be a figure in the sport...
-
LOL. Sure ::)
do you have some sort of inside info that ken has threw fights before?or r u just all powerfull and all knowing.
-
Even if Kimbo lost a close fight to Shamrock...he would still be a big draw because everyone looses at sometime or another.
-

He would like to think so. Shamrock will not throw a fight. If Kimbo wins he wins, but I think Ken will kick his ass. He may be a bit older now but he has the wisdom and is still pretty strong and a whole lot smarter than Kimbo. Kimbo has done nothing to impress me yet. He hit the last guy with some great shots and couldn't knock him out. Ken will get it on the ground and destroy Kimbo. Will someone please mark this post

you wanna make a wager?

and the circus continues, a washed up has been against a never was. ::)
-
Are we really having this conversation? If the fight goes to the ground, Kimbo can cancel Christmas, because it is over. And unless Ken is now functionally retarded, I would bet he is going to pull a GSP vs Serra II and take him down immediately. Ken can submit Kimbo, there is no question there. And in reality this will be his biggest fight ever, his legacy on the line, and I'm sure he knows that. Please don't count Shammy out of this just yet.
Remember how bad Collosus made Kimbo look on the ground, and I think even past his prime, Ken is far more talented than Thompson.

Ken's body is shot, I know he's had problems with his pectorals, a nagging ACL problem since the Tito fight, and I think hamstring problems, plus he's looked pretty small and withered since getting off the sauce. JT's size gave Kimbo more problems than his actual techniques did. Ken dosen't even have a punchers chance, all he can hope for is that maybe Kimbo might slip and fall and Ken can jump on him and slap a quick leg lock on him, but I do see what you mean in the event of a Shamrock win. I'm getting tired of seeing Kimbo, but i'm much more tired of seeing Ken get beat up.

What has Kimbo done to earn the 'icon' label?

It's in five weeks. Too short to really make a difference.
-
Kens going to get owned and thats coming from someone who aint a fan of Kimbo. Shamrock aint got the common sense to take it to the floor, the guy is delusional enough to think he can stand and trade with people when he simply cant, his last 5 fights prove my theory correct.
Ken is a shot fighter, hes done, he should have called it a day after Tito instead of humiliating his already tainted legacy.
-

I never take a bet seriously unless I do it at the Sports Book. I know Ken is the underdog but I like routing for the underdog
-
I hope and wish, for the sake of all the general public new to MMA and only watching because of Kimbo the Clown, that Ken demolishes Kimbo, just takes him down, gets in full mount and just beats the hell out of him, just so they can see that even an old washed up (but legit) MMA fighter can handle Kimbo.
-
Yeah, I can just see Shamrock's ego getting in the way and he'll end up trying to trade with Kimbo until he gets knocked out. He has already been saying that Kimbo's striking is not as good or technical as people think it is.
Its almost comparable to Shamrocks brother fighting Cung Le in Strikeforce. Shamrock just wanted to stand up and bang with Cung Le the entire fight until his arm got broke by a kick, even when he knew Cung Le didn't have any submission skills.

Yeah...really hope ken fights with his brain...not his ego....if everything goes well....ken should pull it off But kimbo is strong..hmm :-\
