Dan Henderson recently sat down with UFC.com to discuss a variety of issues including his adjustment to the UFC from PRIDE, his last loss to Anderson Silva, and his upcoming fight at UFC 88 with highly regarded Rousimar Palhares.
Henderson On Coming To The UFC From PRIDE:
"I don't think anyone else has had as tough a first two fights back in the UFC as I have, and that's the way I prefer it. I want to fight the best in the world, to test my skills and see how I am. You win some, you lose some; unfortunately, I've lost the last two. I'm definitely going out there this fight [with Palhares] to win and take nothing less than winning.
"I think having lost my last two fights, I definitely need to get back in there and win this one for sure. I think Wanderlei Silva was in a similar situation, except for he'd lost three in a row. But again, the three that he lost were against three top guys. Then they put him against Jardine and he was kind of with his back to the wall and he went out there and took care of business, so I guess I got to follow his lead."
Henderson On His Loss To Anderson Silva:
"I didn't quite do the weight cut as I was planning—I overshot it by three pounds, That's my own fault. I normally like to lose five or six pounds at weigh-ins. I was eight pounds over and I ended up losing 11. It came off a little bit too easy—but again, it's just not good to do. And who knows, that could have been a reason. Or could have been just not a good night for me in general."
Henderson On His Upcoming Fight With Rousimar Palhares At UFC 88:
"Yeah, that's pretty much all Palhares has is submissions," Henderson says. "I try to come up with a game plan not to fight right in the guy's strengths, so obviously I'm going to be trying to stay up on my feet with him. I just see myself knocking him out. I was pretty pissed at my last performance and I'm probably going to be a little bit pissed when I go out there and fight this guy. I'm ready to do a 15-minute grappling match with him if I have to, but I'm not going to lose."
He attributes a weight cut error to his loss to Silva? :-\
How about just acknowledging that Silva was better than him that night.

He did, however win the first round against anderson though

Yeah I agree, Henderson dominated Silva the first round and controlled every second of that round, then it was like he gassed out really quick and got dominated the second round. I thought for sure he had Silva's number.

I think there needs to be a rematch once Dan gets a few wins back under his belt. I still think he is the only guy that has a chance of beating him.
And yes, Dan won the first round, but was beaten up pretty badly in the second.

I agree. You could even see it in his face after he was submitted in the 2nd as if to say "now why did I not just keep my head and stick to the plan...oh well"
but that's just how good silva is also. Just that simple shift away from his gameplan...bam....it was over like that.
Dan has fought some tough cookies so far in ufc I must say.

Some good posts here! I think Henderson looked great in the first round against Silva. As a Henderson fan I got very excited ... but then it all got turned around in round 2.
That been said .... Anderson Silva has started to look every unbeatable lately.
I like Henderson because he is a home-grown farm-boy that never trash talks and had a great record in Pride.... and then he fought the very best once he crossed to the UFC.
Gotta respect that?

Henderson is one of my favorite fighters. Under BJ, and I do like Nate Diaz more and more. Anyways, Henderson has the attitude Hughes did before the belt and the status. He is a down to earth guy who works his ass off. He is as good as he is because of his work ethic and heart. The guy is a fuckinG stud. Anderson is one hell of a fighter as well, he can hold his own on the ground and is an assasin on his feet. I can't think of anyone at the present time who stands a rats chance. I think he will have to move up to 205 if he wants a challange. Chuck and Silva would be great and Wandy vs. Silva would be good to, I just think that those guys are to big and strong and then you start to look at Anderson as the Underdog. I do think he could fight Bisbing and destroy him same Leben (didn't this happen? KO if I am not mistaken) Hammil, and a few other of the new faces. Wandy and Chuck though would be bangers.

exactly...I love that about Dan also. Tough SOB period point blank. Quiet Kinda Guy. Taking all comers. Will lay it on the line.
I especially love how he keeps that chin tucked and damn near falls into his opponents trying to land that sneaky right he keeps at the ready constantly. I stole that one and use it often in sparring. lol
