Finally - Obama used specifics tonight:
Obama's list of changes tonight:
Change means a tax code that doesn't reward lobbyists.
i will stop tax breaks on firms that export jobs, and give these breaks to firms that create new jobs.
eliminate small gains tax on startups.
cut taxes for 95% of all working families.
In ten years, we will end dependence on middle eastern oil.
I will tap nat'l gas researves
safely harness nuclear power
retool automakers for more efficnet cars.
150 bil invested in affordable, renewable sources of energy over 10 years.
5 mil new jobs will be created.
strong early childhood education investment.
higher standards and more accounability from teachers as well
College education assitance for those who volunteer in poor communities - WOW.
lower healthcare premiuims.
Congressional-level healthcare for Americans who have coverage already.
Non-discrimination policy from healtchcare providers for already-sick people.
pensions protected AHEAD OF CEO bonuses... very important here...
strong equal pay for equal work legislation (hi hilary fans!)
How will I pay for it?
By closing corporate tax loopholes - I have it mapped out.
I'll move thru federal budgert and slash everything non-esential.
THe bureaucracy of the last 8 years will go.
More responsbility from each of us...
mccain says he'll follow osama to the gates of hell..
but he won't even follow him to the cave where he lives.
My call for a Timeframe to remove our troops from iraq-
has been echoed by both iraq - AND THE BUSH ADMIN.
iraq has 79 bil in surplus, while we are wallowing in deficit.

"only in america" country song as his outro. Interesting!
And Mccian never leaked his Vp announcement to upstage Obama.
That means its a predictable pick which wouldn't make waves, or an unknown. My guess = Romney.

you're right on.
But a few things I didn't expect... No gaffes. No scandals. No upstaging from mccain.
29 personal specific policy pledges.

lol, and almost all of then won't and can't be done unless he plans to tax 60% haha
-

fuking exactly...how do ppl buy this shit up and not question anything
-
also he is going to cut taxes for 95% of middle class so only 5% of the middle class have a 401k LOL
again this was much of the same from this guy just reworked a little
-

I styed with the speech throughout, and I was just adding up in my head how badly he would bankrupt this country, and tax the middle and upper income brackets. He made no practical sense tonight, just alot of broken promises, and empty rhetoric. The only thing that made this speech good was, he told dumb people what they wanted to hear (and poor) "I'll give you...I'll give you...I'll give you..."
-
The comment about McCain's temperment and judgement was ridiculous and arrogant.
The one thing that pissed me off tonight was when Michael McDonald said, "this is dedicated to the people who want their country back", before he began signing America the Beautiful. I don't know why it pissed me off so much. Was it the way he said it? Was it the arrogance of his celebrity?
Looking at all of the celebrities that were on camera, I think it's safe to say that Hollywood sure does drink alot of KOOL-AID! :o
-
republicans drink their fair share as well.
-
lol, and almost all of then won't and can't be done unless he plans to tax 60% haha
so now you concede that he did, after all, give specifics. And that you just disagree with them.
Actually, he said he'll pay for them - and will dictate how to the penny - by cutting corporate tax loopholes that have allowed Bush friends to keep billions.
-

True dat!

Specifics? No he did not, he pledged. He also said at the same time he would do all this while at the same time cutting taxes ???
So you now concede that you don't know about economics or government financing? If you did you would have noticed that this was a "smart" speech but not for someone that knows the show behind the curtain.

Slow down. I am no expert, but I do have an MBA and had to do a lot of work in economics and finance, and I do keep up wth politics.
Obama promised to go thru fed budget line by line and cut all ineffective programs.
Obama promised to close the fed tax loopholes on corps, which will bump up tax $, and says it will cover every cent.
Don't be bitter... he delivered specifics. I'm sure mccain's convention will be just as spectacular, and he'll deliver much more specifics!
-
you know i didnt see the entire speech did he say anything about health care?
-

yep. said he'll end discriminatory practice which allow companies to refuse people already suffering from ailments.

never said anything about socializing? or health care for all?
-

he said if you already have it - and youre paying for it now - then he's gonna make the companies improve their quality so it's on par with congress. "Congressional-level healthcare for Americans who have coverage already."
Nothing about the scrubs who choose not to have it.

so has he abandoned his universal health care stance?

i didn't say that. i was asked what he said tonight. i have no clue what his stance is.

i didnt say you said that it was a fuking question ::)

Obama promised to go thru fed budget line by line and cut all ineffective programs.
Something more specific would have been to say WHICH programs are ineffective....certainly his camp would have this type of information
Obama promised to close the fed tax loopholes on corps, which will bump up tax $, and says it will cover every cent.
Examples of these federal tax loopholes, please?
-
YEA!!! BARACK GAVE US EMPTY SPECIFICS WITH NO TRACK RECORD OF SHOWING HE CAN ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING!!!
LET'S JUST BELIEVE HIM FOR FUN!!!
BARACK FOR CHANGE!!!
HIP HIP
HOOORAY!!

Close the fed tax loopholes on a business? Wow, a politician really can say anything these days.
That is nearly impossible, companies would consilidate...many would just sell off assets, and say they made their money and now it's time to move on.
I can't err actually I don't want to see the United States TEV come Obama time....
Little fact...Obama is not going to get what he wants...meaning bond traders are going to royally screw him over, and he is not going to have this plan all laid out like he or you thinks. Why? Shit happens. Unless he knows this and really wants a weak America.

He met with a lot of the top economic advisers in the country to forumulate this plan.
I'll call them in the morning and tell them they were wrong about this.
Good looking out, bro.

Yeah, they had your best interests in mind, haha.

Specifics?? That's nuts. It was a garden variety, long on promises, short on "specifics," dressed up political speech. He did not specify how was going to pay for all the things he wants to do. Did he really say anything that he hasn't said already?
-
What kind of specifics would anyone expect in a speech setting like that?
It's all fluff right now.
In the debates you should get some.
I don't see McCain doing anything different unless he wants to put the crowd to sleep.
