Did McCain pick Palin to win the election or becuase she was the best available?
-
I think he picked her because she would help him win and secondly because she has a solid background and will help shore up the base. The "best available" was Colin Powell IMO.
Romney would have been okay too.
-
Thats a good question.
Good point about Powell, I always respected him...but he didn't want to run.
I think Romney would have been a very good choice but a Romney/McCain ticket would have been under heavy fire from dems. I like Palin, but there could be an argument made for Romney as a better choice. Hell, I think Romney would have been a better president choice.
-
Don't you think Pail will receive more fire from dems then Romney?

Look who was calling for Palin. ultra conservatives. Also anyone who's been around the Christian ultra conservative can attest to the backdoor talking that goes on in regards to Mormons. They're viewed as a church of satan. This was a choice to appease those calling for her. I'm not sure if Romney would have been a better choice, I think he wouldn't be as much of a risk of losing the middle for McCain so maybe he would have been.

I think that's the beauty of this selection....a Romney pick would have given Obama's campaign plenty of slander material.
Just in the past few hours we're already seeing the Obama campaign and his MSM allies scrambling for material... It's funny to watch.

right, they're scrambling ::) She's been in the top 3 choices for a while now... Gimme a break, nobody In the politics scrambled. It's actually really amazing the number of articles that were released almost instantly after the choice was confirmed. Why? Because they were ready with material to go with any of the major picks. The only way you could say that is if he picked someone nobody was talking about for VP.

mccain admitted he was weak on economy.
he NEEDED a romney or a Carly Fiorino from HP to put some economic confidence back in people.
I see a woman who got pinched trying to fire her brother-in-law after he wronged her sister.
That shit belongs on Maury Povich.
Running the world's economy? I'd trust romney more than her. :(

You wanted Romney to win didn't you? I can't remember for sure.

She is the only candidate with executive experience.
That is a fact.

True. Outside of Colin Powell, picking a governor was the right thing to do.
-
True. Outside of Colin Powell, picking a governor was the right thing to do.
Yeah, but she has ZERO Washington experience. Romney has that right?
-
18 months of it.
Minus vacations.
Minus time spent with lawyer fighting the ongoing investigation and possible impeachment charges.
Awesome!
-

I think both.
Romney is too wishy washy on the issues.

Awesome!
Obama has zero, and almost his entire time in the senate has been campaigning for president.
I would take some over none any day.
Criticizing her inexperience only makes Obama look worse. You have to look at his record too.
-
Yeah, but she has ZERO Washington experience. Romney has that right?
I don't think Romney has any Washington experience. That isn't necessary IMO. I think Romney's experience as governor is what he needed to be prez or VP.
-
True. Outside of Colin Powell, picking a governor was the right thing to do.
Powell is too old anyway. I mean he looks good, but he is over 70 too isn't he?
A couple of over 70 yr old guys on a ticket is not cool.
-

I thought the point was executive experience? I think that's what he meant but maybe I'm wrong.

this would be spin for the truth that.....they're scrambling. :P

I don't have a problem with old guys. I typically trust old guys over young guys, particularly when it comes to decision making.
-
I thought the point was executive experience? I think that's what he meant but maybe I'm wrong.
Washington experience is not executive experience unless you are the prez. Prez, gov, mayor = executive experience. Governor does almost everything the president does, but on a smaller scale. I think it's great training.

Thing being, how it looks to voters. I also couldnt care less about age/race/gender - but people do and McCain is already catching heat due to age. Slapping another old guy on as VP would be like Obama slapping a black guy as VP. Not wise.

that's not what I said. I thought the issue was Palin having the only executive experience. I thought that was the point being raised with Mitt, that he too did. I was saying I thought it was mispoken by Ozmo and the point was executive experience.
-
McCain's choice is doing one thing:
GETTING NEWS COVERAGE!
And people are talking about it. Which is good.
I don't know anything about this lady. It will be interesting to learn more.
I think she might have a little power to steal a little spotlight from the Obama express for a while.
Brilliant timing on the republican's part.
-
Executive experience is much better than senatorial experience IMO.
"Criticizing her inexperience only makes Obama look worse". This is absolutely true.
I think the democrats are very worried with this pick because of what happened with Hillary.
-

True. Good point.
-
I liked Romney but he would have taken a lot of heat for changing some of his positions and being a millionaire.
Palin is a solid conservative and doesn't present herself as a radical, religious nut, or party-liner. Great candidate based on personality IMO.
-

Ah so. I thought Ozmo was saying Romney had D.C. experience, but you're saying he probably meant to say Romney had executive experience.
-

Using Romney would open McCain to the same criticism that he used about Biden questioning Obama's qualifications and readiness to lead.
-

that's what I was trying to say. But maybe I'm wrong. I just thought he mispoke since that's what we were talking about earlier.
-

True. McCain really pulled the rug out from under a lot of folks with this pick. The Dems probably had Romney ads ready to roll. Sort of like those t-shirts they print of the Super Bowl loser. :)
-
no, it doesn't work that way. She was one of the top choices, they had material ready to go on all of them, just as the GOP probably had on Obama's top list. Come on fellas, I don't even know why you say this, it's silly and just does not work that way.
-
I'm sure she was on their list but probably not as high as several others.
I think this choice suprised most of America
-
It surprised everyone except Tu. :)
