Andrew Halcro, a man who ran against Palin as an Independent for Governor (and received about 10% of the vote), says that McCain's staff has just arrived in Wasilla to vet Palin post-announcement:
The campaign of John McCain has sent a staff of eight people into Alaska to conduct background checks and vetting on Governor Sarah Palin.
Word is they have have eight rooms reserved at a Wasilla hotel.
And just as crazily, they didn't even read through the local newspaper's archives:
On Saturday, a Democrat tasked with opposition research contacted the Huffington Post with this piece of information: as of this weekend, the McCain campaign had not gone through old newspaper articles from the Valley Frontiersman, Palin's hometown newspaper.
How does he know? The paper's (massive) archives are not online. And when he went to research past content, he was told he was the first to inquire.
There have already been grumblings about McCain's notorious hotheadedness showing itself in his choice of Palin. She's obviously a choice borne of a political reaction -- McCain needed to shore up support among women (and try to take advantage of the PUMAs out there) while maintaining his cred with social conservatives. And even though his decision could be brilliant, it is certainly dangerous.
And now we know it goes well beyond dangerous. He was reckless.

surely they can't be vetting her after the fact
surely he did this first and for weeks and weeks

Reports were that he sent lawyers to check on the "troopergate" mess, and had a 30 min conversation with her. He also met her briefly once, on Super Tuesday.
That. Was. It.
Also, she got a lawyer today. Seems that the state of Alaska will decide if she should be impeached, a few days before the November election.

jesus - that's just fucking nuts.
WTF is wrong with McCain?
Is this how he going to run the country...Shoot first and then Aim?
-
This appears to be more of the Ready...Fire...AIM policies we've seen so much over the past 8 yrs. ::)
Such impulsiveness on the part of McCain really should give people pause IMO.

I was thinking the exact same thing!!!

I noticed
It seems like a good description of what he appears to be doing and if it's true it really gives me the creeps. This is how he deals with his first truly important decision?

it doesn't though. :-\
All repugs do is call you a lib. It's their leader -----> follow the leader.

Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager and the person at the point of the vice presidential process, said there was no abrupt change of course in the final hours. Nor, he said, was Palin selected without having gone through the full vetting process that was done for other finalists. That process included reviews of financial and other personal data, an FBI background check and considerable discussion among the handful of McCain advisers involved in the deliberations.
"Nobody was vetted less or more than anyone in the final stages, and John had access to all that information and made the decision," Davis said. "It's really not much more complicated than that."

::)
If that statement by Rick Davis is accurate, ...then it indeed calls into question Mccain's judgement,
...MORE THAN EVER!
-
I just don't understand what 8 repubs are doing in alaska NOW?
I mean, shouldn't have done that BEFORE they picked her?
-
The Question is who will uncover more? The McCain team or the Tabloids?

YAM, you're an intelligent levelheaded guy, how can you defend this outrageous decision by mccain?
come on man, be honest with yourself.

It only looks bad because the volatility is so high. At first was I happy? No, not really. But then I waited a day to give her a chance. All to often we figure the person that is put in this place, is a CEO, or an ivy league graduate. Palin is neither, which gives her more of my respect in the hopes she can tackle the issues that matter most to Americans, and give the GOP ticket a reminder of their roots. She is not linked to people like Ayers, or facist islamic preachers such as Rev. Wright. She is linked to a family, a small town, and a tight knit community. Her family has problems, she is solving them, her town had problems, she solved them, etc. I'm only playing along with this pregnancy thing because you as well as I know it has hit fever pitch, and the ride down is going to bring some bigger names into the picture ergo, Obama lynchman. I have faith in her.

palin = an unmitigated disaster.

You've got to be kidding? ??? You're referring to the same person the rest of us have to endure on this board?
