Title: Diet Question
Post by: wavelength on September 02, 2008, 12:54:25 PM
I have tried different approaches for dieting down while preserving as much muscle as possible (as a natty) and I have found that the following rules are sufficient:

- A minimum daily protein intake (approx. 0.5g/lb bodyweight),
- a deficiency of calories which leads to 1-3 lbs of weight loss per week,
- hard weight training at least 3 times a week,
- a variety of food good enough to ensure proper intake of all needed nutrients.

Factors of no, minimal, or even negative influence seem to be:

- the ratio of macro nutrients other than defined by the rules above,
- cardio training,
- abandonment of alcohol,
- intake of "supplements",
- proper spacing of meals during the day.

Why should I eat boiled fish and rice, run on a treadmill like a fockin' hamster, stop boozing, or guzzle rat poison?
Discuss.

100 percent correct.

I eat whatever I want.

Without a minimum protein intake, it doesn't work, at least not for me. That's the only rule I must follow concerning macros.

EXACTLY!

0.5- 1 gram per lb is sufficient and should be adhered to.

Other than that, anything goes.

Amazing that the above we posted, is enough to rewrite EVERY single diet book out there.

I forgot to add, I also eat most of my calories at one time during the day. There's nothing better than having a full belly at least once a day. Usually I train a few hours afterwards, so that I still have enough strength.

I eat mine whenever I feel like it basically.  Meal times are another myth.  Does not matter at all when you eat.

Can't put it on the list until confirmed by a second source (me not counting because of lack of experience).

why are you dropping so much weight?

I was 229lbs and fat. There's a whole back story to it but the long and short is I'm tearing everything down to build back up. I was never a serious weight lifter, always leaned towards more athletic things.

no, way lower. I don't really have a number where I think I'll be but if I want to get as lean as I can I imagine I'll have to be between 165-175lbs. I could be lighter most likely. At 195 which I'm near now I still have a good amount to get off of me.

nah, 5'9 or 5'10 depending on whoever measures. One of the reasons I'm going down so much is to see how much muscle I actually have. I've never been lean. I'll probably end up like Leafy Bug but w/o the roids.

It might be psychologically difficult to be so small. Some times it's easier to delude yourself that some of the fat is 'bulk."

I was 170lbs about 6 years ago. It shouldn't be that much of a shock to the system. I began lifting at my fattest so I've never had any delusions of being a "big guy" I've always considered myself "fat"

Dude you are way over thinking your diet, if you have to put that much effort into it to look good your genetics suck, seriously, take some ephedra and clen whatever you choose, also phentermine works wonders to control appetite.

Same reason I'm doing it. And yes, that's what you will look like. The schoolgirl-with-abs physique. ;D

I've never been that heavy, but it's frightening how low you must go for decent condition. Best thing to do is not step on a scale.
