Not who you think is the best but the players YOU liked.
lets just pick 1 per sport.
Football-Lawrence Taylor,he changed how the game was played.
Baseball-Don Mattingly-as a youngster watching when the Yanks sucked he was the whole show.
Hockey-Brian Leetch-a boy from CT who played for the Rangers, didn't get any better for me.
Basketball-Hakeem Olajuwon,always liked his game.

This is hard because I have different current/past players, but, to follow the rules:
Football: LT. It was just awesome to watch during his prime.
Baseball: Mariano Rivera. Greatest ever at his position. Even moreso when you consider he dominated during the steroid era for over a decade. Class personified.
Basketball: Charles Oakley. Used to love watching him throw Mourning around. I hate basketball now, but am liking LeBron....
Hockey: Messier. Don't really follow it much anymore either.
-
Baseball-Griffey Jr. In his prime the ultimate 5 tool player. He could do it all, not your one dimensional power hitter.
Basketball- Larry Bird. Clutch and a winner. He always wanted the ball and and played his heart out.
Hockey- Ray Bourque- Don't watch that much hockey, but was a great defenseman and leader. Sad he had to go to the Avs to win a cup.
Football- Brady. Same as Bird.
-
Baseball-Griffey Jr.
Greatest looking swing ever.
-
Baseball- Bonds: showed how good a juiced up player at 40+ can still dominate. Love him or hate him, the only homerun balls in question should be the ones that just barely cleared the fences after 2003.
Football- Montana and Rice: set a new standard for the passing games. Except for maybe Manning and Harrison, can't think of too many QB to WR tandems that make the Hall of Fame on the same team.
Hockey- um go Sharks
Basketball- um go Warriors
-
Football-Lawrence Taylor, Earl Campbell, Joe Montana, Dick Butkus, Jack Youngblood
Baseball-Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Albert Pujols, Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, Juan Marichal
Basketball-Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Pete Maravich, Dominique Wilkins

Baseball-Eric Gagne
Basketball-n/a
-
Baseball-Greg Maddux
Basketball-Dirk Novinski
Football-who cares?
Hockey-I honestly can not name one pro hockey player.
-
Tom Brady - One of the best to ever play the game. Tough, smart, athletic, durable and cerebral. When it's all said and done, he will be (arguably) the best QB to ever play the position.
Ted Williams - The greatest hitter ever. A legend who changed the game.
Larry Bird - clutch and cunning.....he never backed down to anyone, and his skills were legendary. "Larry Bird was the only whit guy I was afraid off" - Magic Johnson
Cam Neely - 93-94 season 50 goals in 44 games, and a true warrior....nuff said.
Barry Sanders - No explanation needed

Baseball: Maddux, dude is the ultimate badass
Football: Steve Young. Best QB of all time, if he'd had montana's teams he'd have won every year in the 80's.
Basketball: Magic, the best basketball player ever (jordan being the greatest talent).
Hockey: Owen Nolan
Golf: Payne Stewart ( i met him at the 98 us open, last one he did before he died. nicest guy in pro sports ever maybe)

Steve Young was a great player and should be on my honorable mention list. However i don't know if he'd done as well a Montana becuase Joe had a certain uncanny ability to win big games when it counted especially from behind.
