Mid 90's. Golds Venice. when it comes to top bodybuilders at a ripped bodyweight, nobody ever came close to what I witnessed Rory Leidelmeyer do over some of those workouts.
He did 5 supersets of Flat Barbell Bench Presses with 495lbs for sets of 10 reps and immediately followed it with seated simultaneous Dumbbell curls with 110lb Dumbbells for reps that were clearly over 10 per set. He must have rested no more than a minute in between and kept going like a maniac.
The next memorable thing that i saw him do a few days later was a superset of Dumbell Side Laterals followed by seated front military presses. For the side laterals Rory used a loose form with 80lb dumbbells in each hand for high reps. At least 12. He then went immediately to the seated rack to Military barbell Press 365lbs for high reps. He did 5 cycles of this at a breakneck pace.

Yeah I remember Rory tried to make a comeback in the late 80s early 90s bragging about how he could beat Haney at will if he ' wanted ' to lol he couldn't turn pro never mind defeat Haney , another great gym bodybuilder there have been many of them .

I believe he was strong. It is possible he did 495 x 10 on the flat bench, but I would not believe it without hearing it from an eyewitness I trust or seeing it myself.

Around 10 years back Duchaine, Rob Schuh, and a few others were reminiscing about old times on the old Misc.Fitness.Weights, and mentioned that yes, Bolasterone was just whatever strong stuff the makers had mixed together. That the name was just chosen because of old-time steroid lore/myth.
Pat Arnold also looked at the formula for real Bolasterone and doubted anyone would bother actually making a real version because of the complexity involved.

I never saw Rory train and know nothing about his strength levels........
BUT, I have seen Mike Christian train, and I personally saw him and a workout partner in 1982, after he had won the Cal, do sets hitting 405 for 8-10 reps on Inclines followed by 495 bench presses. Not supersets. 4 sets on inclines, then on to the flat bench.
Unreal, one of the strongest benches in Gold's Gym Venice.

Then you were never in the Mecca of BBing-Gold's Venice. Numerous guys could hit 405 inclines fro 6-10 reps- 25+ years ago. That big fat powerlifter who trained there, Grizzly Brown or whatever his names was (since died) could slam 405 inclines like it was 135.

I am telling you that he did on that day. Rory was in Golds venice training opposing supersets that day. Jason Mathis was following him around during the entire workout with a camera. Maybe he did it that day for the photoshoot. I am not bullshitting you.

i am friends with jason.. and i have many of thiose photos.. rory looked absolutely amazing that day and would have garnered his pro card if he competed.. as for his strength, coach would know way better than i.. but, i saw rory superset bench with db flat presses and still use 130 pound dbs for all 5 sets.. john did also..

BeefyHW... you know me and I know you, and we both know Rory. I've trained with him, I don't remember you working out with him, but I know you two were training at the same time on many occasions. Rory was in fact extremely strong. He even managed to keep solid form when moving those big weights, but I don't remember him doing those crazy heavy supersets.
Another crazy strong excellent bodybuilder was Arron Baker. Brother Baker moved weights that were as heavy as any IFBB pro I ever saw train.
