Title: Gym bullshitters! share ur experience
Post by: vic86 on September 11, 2008, 11:45:52 PM
ok guys pretty much more than a begginer here ,currently i train at a facility  where DB`s are upto 150lbs,1 powercage, cables, single benches(flat, decline, incline), smith cage, few multi purpose benches etc etc,

couple of weeks back i was doing barbell shrugs in the powercage, so its quite normal to drop the weight on rack after u complete ur set when the weight is relatively heavy(4 *45`s each side in my case), so this chick at my gym tells me the noise irritates her a lot y dont u get a help frm someone to rack the weights , i was like "What"? i still politely explained her, the pros and cons but still was not in the position to budge, finally lost my cool i had to be very arrogant (which i rarely be) told her to change her time if she dnt like the sound of iron and worried about her makeup ::), after that she dint turn up at  my time?should i have been more convincing? ;)

any more candy @$$ experiences? ;D

I agree with the slut you shouldn't have been dropping the weights.  People who drop weights and make a ton of unecessary noise are annoying.

Yeah, dropping weights isn't that great, especially for the equipment itself.

Try using some weight you can actually manage without dropping.

Reminds me of something that happened today in a gym I workout in.

This dude was doing cable curls and he was slamming the weight down... I mean that shit was "CLANG... CLANG... CLANG"

Loud as hell.

Well, the manager went and put the smack down on him... Imagine how he felt.

A little teeny 130 pound girl dropping the hammer on him telling him to man the fuck up and stop dropping shit.

It was classic.

maybe you have miss a chance to fuck a chick because of your arrogance...and that, it's priceless.

I would have say " Well, if I stop to do noise here, can we make some noise together in the shower?"  At least you would have try

Anyway, I hate it too when You can hear Grampa Jon destroying the end of his pant and yelling because he tries to squat 35 lbs

I hardly ever slam weights and i never make much noise at all. Even when i go heavy i can still control the weight i'm using and never make a scene screaming and acting like Ronnie...

Vic,
Probably not the responses you were looking for?

If you train in an old-school/hardcore power lifter’s type of gym (and it sounds like you don’t) with basic equipment and over 50% of the members yell and grunt like Cell Block-C, then I don’t see a problem doing what you did.

However, most of these modern franchised “fitness” facilities are only designed to withstand minimal wear & tear, and more importantly, they’re catering to a broader demographic that may be deterred by such behavior from its members.

A lot of it depends on where you train.
And when in Rome…

yes montague :)

i really dont make unnecessary grunting voices... only when its required, happnes to all of us, neither i drop the dumbells down because we dont have the appropriate flooring,i also realise that i should have handled this in a more matured manner, but its hard to buy this from the people who are, much more socialising i say in the gym

also noticed that powercages do create sounds even if weight is placed carefully on the rack ::)
thx for the replies guys

When working in a power cage/rack, noise is a given.  Control of a weight,in a power gym, is also encouraged. That would mean the less noise the better. Where I train, we can use a rubber type industrial hose. Cut  length and sliced down the middle of one side. Just stretch it over the pins in the rack. Helps to deaden a little of the noise factor.

Another hint: controlling and lowering a heavy bar (like in shrugs, DL's, power Hi-pulls, etc) also helps to develop lasting stable ligament/muscle strength and one's grip.  Good Luck.
