Title: This really sucks. Advice needed
Post by: Cavalier22 on September 12, 2008, 10:34:56 AM
Alright here is the deal.  I am 5'9'' and usually weigh aruond a lean 180-185.  I came down with Meningitis (luckily it was just viral) and got real sick and was in the hospital for a few days.

Anyway, I obviously must have lost some weight during the ordeal and a couple days after I got back i weight myslef--166!!!  I haven't been that light since i was like 17 (8 yeras ago).  It is depressing to thikn of all that muscle that whither away in such a short time.  Obviously I don't think all that weight I lost was muscle but I'm sure a decent amount was.

Has anyone had to deal with a sickness like that?  is it hard to get back to where you were before?

For awhile I had been on a 4 lifting workouts a week split (Chest-tris, back abs, off, legs/bi's, shoulders/traps)

I thikn now would be a good time to switch to a different kind of workout until i get back to a solid base.  Maybe one of those Push/Pull/Leg splits?  or something where I hit each bodypart not as intense but twice a week?

Do you guys have any suggestios for coming back or for a solid workout plan to follow for th efirst month or so?

I really appreciate any help.

thanks

I'm thinking of trying HST.  It seems foreign to me though as I am used to HIT

Anyone out there try it?

you're worrying about absolutely nothing here...

your body has a memory chip in it that get ya right back to where you were as soon as your diet and lifting resumes

I can't even count the 4 or 5 month layoffs I've had in the last 5-6 years and without fail within 2 months I was right back to where I was before each layoff

Food and water.  I'm sure you lost a bunch of water volume from being dehydrated.  Just bump the water consumption, try to get your appetite back up, and don't worry about a fancy workout program.  Hell, you'd be fine using what you were on before, just bring the weights down to 70-80% of what you were using for a couple weeks.

I always thought muscle memory had to do with how a muscle FUNCTIONED and not its size. For instance, isn't muscle memory what enables you to ride a bike after a long time of not riding one.

that's part of muscle memory too
it's more of the muscle memorizing the MOTOR skills though
muscle memory that I'm talking about is about gaining back muscle size
it's way easier the second time around
