How are these two winning in the polls?
Everyone is bashing McCain/Palin.
(CNN) – When John McCain agreed to appear on the day-time talk fest known as The View, he may not have been expecting too many hard-hitting questions.
But the Arizona senator was aggressively pressed on VP candidate Sarah Palin's qualifications to be vice president, as well as his new negative campaign ads that several independent fact-checks have called downright misleading.
Co-host Barbara Walters immediately asked McCain about a remark he’d made that Palin might just be the most "marvelous running mate" ever, asking, "that's not a little strong?"
"We politicians are never given to exaggerations or hyperbole, as you know," McCain joked, before praising Palin as the most "popular governor in America" and one who has united a "spark in America."
Walters went on to press Palin's reformist credentials, noting McCain has served in Washington for more than two decades and asking repeatedly, "who's she going to reform, you?"
McCain began to answer by saying Democrats have held control of Congress for two years, before Walters quickly interrupted: “But tell me who she is going to reform — we aren't talking about the economy, we're not talking about housing, she was chosen to reform, who is she going to reform?"
"The Democrat Party, the Republican Party, even an independent," McCain said, appearing somewhat frustrated, "She'll reform all of Washington."
"How? What will she do," Walters appearing somewhat exasperated said. "What is she going to reform specifically, senator?"
McCain said Palin had a strong record on vetoing earmark spending. "The fact is she was a reform governor, she took on an incumbent governor of her own party and defeated him. She sold the airplane and fired the chef –" he began.
"She sold the airplane at a loss," an unrelenting Walters interrupted.
McCain was later pressed on the increasingly derisive tone of the campaign, and his new television commercial that carries the widely discredited claim Obama supported comprehensive sex education of kindergarteners as an Illinois state senator.
McCain defended the ad’s claims, as well as those of a Web ad that said Obama’s “Lipstick on a Pig” comments were directed at Palin. He added that if Obama had agreed to a series of townhalls he’d proposed, the tone of the campaign might have been more amicable.
"If we had done what I asked Senator Obama to do, I don't think you'd see the same tenor of this campaign," he said. “Why don't you ask Obama the next time he's on this show why won't he be in town meetings with me?"
"You bring us Sarah Palin and we'll ask Obama," Walters quipped.

I've got to be honest here. I'm a Conservative, always will be. Not a liberal in any way. I'm educated, in the Finance industry, will be affected by Obama's tax hike, etc, etc. I've been defending Conservatives/Republicans on these boards for the last 2 pres. elections. But I have to admit, and this is hard for me, I think it's time for a change. The GOP, my boys, have performed miserably, continue to do so in this campaign, and although it is my knee-jerk reaction to defend Palin, I honestly can't. She's not ready for this. Obama has been STRONG and consistent for over a year now in the polls against the top in his own party during the primaries as well as when compared to the other GOP candidates. Obama is running this race like a true thoroughbred, eventually, the other horse will always fade.

I am a conservative too, but I've never supported the Republican party because to be honest they're not real conservatives. Real conservatism is about small government, strong emphasis on individual civil liberties and little taxes; the Republican party does not stand for those ideals. The Republican party version of conservatism is being pro-life, and a creationist.

Gibson didn't expose Palin. He looked silly and it was clear he was trying to trap her. SHe held her own against the college professor looking anchor. HE came across rather smug and she came across as very likeable. Just look at the polls.

What I don't understand is why this McCain fellow thinks being a prisoner of war makes him a hero. In Scotland, being a prisoner of war makes you a coward. In my old army regiment, the Blackwatch, if anyone became a prisioner it would have brought disgrace to the regiment. Our soldiers all had the dicipline and bravery to fight to the death. Has McCain never heard of Death before Dishoner ?
When I fought in Korea there is no way these little yellow men would have captured any of my regiment. One night a Korean sneaked up on me when I was doing some exercises at the edge of the jungle. I pretended to surrender and put my hands up but as I got close to him I grabbed his rifle, gouged out his left eye and snapped his neck like a chicken. I then finished off doing my starjumps.
So the USA now has the option of electing :
1. A Black
or
2. An old coward who will die and put a woman in charge.
Talk about a rock and a hard place. I think perhaps we may now see a repeat of what happened in Dallas, Novemeber 1963 before the next election.

I was born in 1934 and served in Korea in 1952-53. I was 18 years old. 62 Blackwatch soldiers died in Korea, none were captured.
My collegues and I took part in the Battle of the Hook at the end of May 1953 and slaughtered the Chinese. From 12th May untill 28th the Blackwatch stood alone and refused to give in although we were outnumbered 100 to 1. No surrender for us.

It's a sad state of affairs when they all suck but at least Obama acts the part of president. I'm done defending these guys after the lipstick thing. They think the public are all idiots. I'll pay the extra taxes if they clean up the mess that is this country. May God Bless America.

I was born in 1934 and served in Korea in 1952-53. I was 18 years old. 62 Blackwatch soldiers died in Korea, none were captured.
My collegues and I took part in the Battle of the Hook at the end of May 1953 and slaughtered the Chinese. From 12th May untill 28th the Blackwatch stood alone and refused to give in although we were outnumbered 100 to 1. No surrender for us.
