Title: bodybuilding is a sport!!!!
Post by: triple_pickle on September 12, 2008, 12:49:02 PM
from the "designing strength training programs" e-book, link courtesy of dreadlord:

on applying the "bodybuilding method" to train athletes, p.176:

"This is an extremely inefficient method for athletes since bodybuilding, like powerlifting and Olympic lifting, is in fact a sport more than an actual training system."

ergo, bodybuilding is a sport but bodybuilders are not athletes :D

just because someone wrote it in a book doesn't make it true.  i could write a book that steroids aren't used in pro bbing but it wouldn't make it true.  i could write that Goodrum and Getsome are hetero, but it wouldn't make it true.

One more--I could write that Coach is a liberal democrat, but that wouldn't make it true.

it is not a sport or a game and there are no athletes involved. It is judging of science experiments

Bodybuilding isn't a sport since none of the workouts count towards any points or time winning records. It's not a game of any sort where competitors out score each other in the gym by the amount of sets they do or the weight they lift. The contests are the goal for amateurs and pros and then it's left up to a judge to decide whether or not they have a great physique. Beauty contests are the same way.

Now if they did one set of mandatory exercise (ie incline bench press) on stage then did a side chest pose right after hitting that set, then maybe it would be a sport.
