Title: A bunch of questions for the experts...for a gym lacking in stuff, some advice?
Post by: Deicide on September 21, 2008, 04:58:50 AM
1. The gym university has a rowing machine where each side must be pulled independently; should I do one side at a time or try to coordinate both sides? This is the first time I have ecountered such a rowing machine.

2. I cannot do squats there, nor deadlifts; what are the best alternatives to these excercises?

Thank you in advance....

i would do one side at a time for rows. would make it easier to focus and put everything into each rep (although it would take a little longer overall doing that exercise)

with no squats and deads are you saying there's no free weights? no smith?

Freeweights yes, up to 37.5kg; No smith...

I guess on high rep days (doing type of HST routine) I could squat against the wall with a medicine ball? Deadlifts...don't know.... ???

And for deads?
They don't have a flat bench?

I am assuming dumbells up to 37.5kg?

And for deads?

Try deads with the heaviest dumbells one at each arm, movement the same as you would do with a barbell....but be careful.  :-\

if it were me i would do..

1) both arms at the same time.

2) barbell rows instead of deads. hack squats instead of squats.

Find a new gym.

Convenience and only 120 bucks for the whole year are good incentives...

There are lots of options.  Multitudes of lunges as mentioned and

Why? Is it because it's not allowed or they don't have bars and something you can stand on?

I would do both sides. Coordination usually comes quickly.
Do they have a leg press?

what on earth do you mean that you can't do deadlifts there? all you need is a bar, some plates and a floor.

Nothing to do deadlifts with...

So you take one of the bars off the bench press and put it on the floor with some plates??  Doesn't sound right.  Any gym that has a bench press you can do deads at.

Please do not end your sentences with prepositional phrases. There are young people on these boards who may be influenced by you.

Seriously?  They lock up the weight plates?

I feel compelled to reiterate my prior statement - find a new gym.
