Depends on your profession. I am a college student and work at a concert production business - i stay stoned all day and night. On the other hand, if you are a chemical engineer, probably not the best idea til after work :)

Even if someone is vehemently opposed to smoking marijuana, they have to respect the fact that prohibition hurts people and the economy a lot more than anything. And this includes the substance at hand.
Canada is going to review prohibition laws soon so it's good to see that it's at least being brought to the table and discussed. In the States where most of you guys live, your homo president just throws more money at the DEA and then spends more money on arresting people and keeping them in prison. We can get away with manslaughter and serve a very short sentence up here, while in the States you'd get just as much time for selling a bag of herb to some skinny emos. Our political leader is a homo too, but at least our guys in power aren't so damn anal when it comes to silly shit like marijuana.
Haven't smoked in a long time but I do love marijuana. I only smoke it when I get headaches now because I don't have time to smoke recreationally. And smoking at night makes me slightly groggy the next day unless I take some nootropics and choline. But no, I'm not smoking bunk. We have some of the most renowned marijuana in the world. Just like how wine connoisseurs bust a nut over good wine, we produce some amazing, nut-bustingly good dank.

its typically the uneducated and ignorant portion of society that when they hear to term marijuana, they think "drug - illegal - cocaine is illegal to, therefore pot = BAD". Pot is schedule I (meaning there is no medicinal use), funny, i assumed there was such a thing as medical marijuana ::).
The HEALTH effects cannot be justified for it to be illegal. If Alcohol is legal, pot should be also.

I got drug tested for 6 months (i got 1 year unsupervised prob), i only have 2 more months to go. I was a complete IDIOT during my time by the chances i took. I passed EVERY drug test, but i also never quit smoking. Foolish, but fortunately i did tons and tons of research. I just quit 7-10 days before test, cleaned system and passed. Then i had another 20+ days to smoke again for next test. GOOD people go to jail for smoking pot, how caveman.

While I do not condone the use of illegal drugs, I do not see why marijuana is so much more "dangerous" than alcohol. It's been my experience that alcohol is more of a gateway drug than marijuana. Most potheads I know do not smoke cigarettes, and are usually using to self medicate. My father smokes with a vaporizer so he can keep food down since he has duodenal ulcers he says it's one of the only things that reduces the pain that is non-narcotic.
It really depends what you look like and where you live. Cops may let my dad off for having a half ounce and rolling papers in his Caddy. The 20 year old college kid who has 3 eighths and is smoking a blunt while driving to a house party in his lowered civic hatchback...is probably gonna get arrested.
what makes no sense is that federally it is illegal but 14 states say it's ok for medical use and doctors can subscribe it. Medical use legality should be a nationwide law.

weed really is a beautiful thing. what makes it so amazing is it comes straight from the earth. its as alive as you or i, and would exist even if we didnt.
weed and other natural drugs such as shrooms made a substantial contribution to human evolution, as early man took these mind altering substances and began to think and ponder on a different level, seeing things from new perspectives. this really helped contribute to our thought process and overall mental development as a species.
i love smoking after a workout, sometimes before (if its not leg day, yikes). i like smoking with my close friends, or by myself. i really wish it was made legal or at the very least discarded as a substance tested in drug tests.
ironically, i want to become a police officer ("pig"), because i think law enforcement work would be really exciting to get into at a relatively young age (plus good benefits). i think the force could use more down to earth, genuine people who wouldnt be on a power trip. i hate the fact that i will be drug tested and must discontinue my use of the sweetest herb known to man. if i were a cop i would much rather respond to a call of a bunch of people smoking pot than a bunch of kids drinking. arresting for possession of weed is bullshit too. i hope to move up in the ranks as an officer fast so i dont have to waste my time with harmless kids smoking weed, i would hate to arrest someone for that. i hope things change soon.

Those serve no purpose other than "to get fucked up". If people want to explore their psyche, they should be permitted to do so in the safety of their own home. I know people who've gotten drunk and done retarded things, while someone who's ultra stoned is much more likely to raid the fridge then savagely beat someone and raid their asshole.
Marijuana is virtually harmless as well. The worst that really happens is a bit of lung damage and maybe a little bit of grogginess until your body naturally recovers. Most people don't take care of their mind or body anyway though, so who the fuck cares if they smoke? The government just doesn't want to go back on nearly 80 years of vicious lies and deceit. They can't afford to admit anymore humongous slip ups. Furthermore, they make no money off of it either. It's now a BILLION dollar industry in illegal and even LEGAL revenue (bongs, paraphernalia, weed posters and stupid shit like that)... the government gets to tap none of that so they just say "fuck it" and continue with their lies. It pisses me off.
I'm pretty fortunate to have never run into any legal troubles. I've been busted and have had close calls, but nothing more than a minor inconvenience. I feel sad for the people that go to prison too. I know great people who grow small, personal stashes and they're not even half as harmful as marijuana. They couldn't hurt or inflict any sort of damage, pain or inconvenience to a fucking fly, but someone will toss them in the slammer because of archaic laws built on lies, racism and deceit? Total bullshit... even if I made the decision not to smoke anymore I would still be utterly outraged. But ah well, even if I wanted to smoke a pound of grass a day I wouldn't get in shit for it. It's still irritating to think of all the people who's lives have been ruined because of prohibition though.

Few things i agree with u on- the health effects. Marijuana certainly isnt GOOD for you im sure, BUT, these are the people that also eat mcdonald combos and pizza bc its "only food" ::). Everything is relative.
U should youtube Barry Cooper - ex narc officer who arrested over 800 ppl on pot alone. He described doing a raid at 3 a.m., full tactical gear on, automatic rifles- arresting a man and woman for having pot in their home. Kids got seperated by DHR. Parents went to jail. The woman was a teacher, the man worked in oil field. come on man, GOOD PEOPLE going to jail with rapists and murderers. Is something WRONG HERE?
If California legalized pot, they would get 2 BILLION dollars a year just from taxes.

its funny, i got year probation for spitting gum on someone and failed my first test and never had a call, no other piss tests and i was sentenced in jan lol so i started smoking again and moved to a different city so idk

Cali has great stuff if you know where to look. Unfortunately you'll still pay at least twice what we pay for up here. Up here, growers will give you garbage bags full of trim with very generous amounts of bud still left on the stalks.
My grower friend is an amazing chef and usually makes a huge batch of cannabudder after every harvest. He used pounds of trim (almost no leaf, pretty much pure bud) and simmered it for three days on a low heat. The cookies were so potent I puked after eating half and tripping for over 12 hours. The next weekend I tried a quarter of a cookie, same thing. I tried an 1/8th of a cookie the next weekend and didn't puke, but I "greened out" a few times but managed to redeem myself. I tried a 1/16th of a cookie, the size of a fucking Skittle and tripped BALLS almost as much as when I ate half a cookie... I just didn't puke or green out.
I got some budder and dehydrated some treats he made and used them for the next year whenever I got a headache. It was so potent. Much more potent than the most purified bubble and jelly hashes that I had ever smoked. I've seen techniques online for using volatile chemicals to extract the most clean, purified forms of THC you can basically rig up without a lab.. and I've had the pleasure of smoking some shit that's supposed to be on par with the techs I read on the internet. Just a wisp of smoke would have you on your ass and damn near puking. I had thought that I dropped LSD I became so out of it. Then I asked my mom where my mushroom burgers were in a fucked up haze lol...
I've had my grubby mits on some potent stuff, but some decently tended to, home grown is all I ever ask for. Something that's not laced with unnecessary/inappropriate nutrients, something that's been given the right light cycles, something that's been flushed properly of nitrates, dried appropriately and hasn't been rushed in the curing process. Honestly, you can use some half decent nutrients from the hydroponics store and as long as you have half a brain, you can grow the most amazing marijuana from bag seed (if you ever happen to come across it). People are just so God damn greedy, like the commercial growers. I only know few guys who grow at home and they become more and more reluctant to share over the years because people just abuse the shit out of it. It should be cherished and respected, imho.

The only reason I can think of that they allow one and not the other is because they feel they can control the purchasing/selling/using of alcohol (plus tax it) and they cannot do the same for pot.

I totally talk on the phone when driving (I use my hands free and mine is voice activated dialing) and I will admit that I text...but do so at red lights. And I'm definitely aware that there are a lot of accidents caused by people on cell phones, which is why some states have banned the use of cell phones when driving. It pisses me off when I see people not paying attention because of having a phone attached to their ear.
I also never said people HAVE TO DRIVE when they smoke or drink...but they do. I am also definitely worried about alcoholics as I have been battling one (family member) for years. So don't talk to me like its all new to me.
I made a comment in this thread regarding my opinion. If it was a thread meant for just postitive "tell me why it should be legal", you shouldn't have said "i would to like to hear why some of you think it should stay illegal".
To be honest, I think it's great for those who need it to control pain and don't feel it should be taken from them. I also had said I've smoked before and I'm no person who should be saying "you should smoke...blah blah blah"... all I said is that it scares me to know that people get behind the wheel while high.

I know what to do if I'm pulled over. I've been smoking casually as I drive since I got my license nearly a decade ago. I have never been so much as questioned by a cop regarding weed. A cop will never find a half a blunt if I don't want him to and I keep the Axe spray handy ;)
