Does it matter which bar you do the curls? :-X
-
i like to do regular bb curls with the 7 foot Olympic bar and preachers with the straight pre fixed weight shorter bars.
-
I'm not gonna lie
i have done both but gett the best results for mi bis from using the long olympic bar
-
I like small straight bar
-
I favor the olympic bar curls, one of the best for building bicep mass, imo.

hmmm im gonna try it with the big barbel....but whats the difference with a small one? ...more "stabilizers" involved?
-
21s and preacher curls = small bar for high reps
standing bb curls = olympic bar for somewhat heavy weights, less than 10 reps.

when using heavier weights, the thicker bar helps to avoid pain in your grip and forarms.

straight bar fucks up my wrists. I constantly would have very sore wrists in college, when I lifted using a straight bar, sometimes so fucked up, that i couldn't open doors with my right hand.

that makes sense. thanks,

An Olympic bar has revolving sleeves which makes any exercise smoother. These bar's are also match bars which means, in theory, better balance, ease of handling and all of the same standard weight, give or take a few ounces. Though not all Olympic bars (and plates) are made the same. Cheaper bars from India and China are usually poor quality and mixed weight (those special sells of 300lbs BB sets for $99.00 for example). But China can make higher quality Olympic bars, though more profit on the cheaper stuff.
An exercise bar is one pieced roll bar, giving a stiffer and more ridged performance. Their inner sleeves ( if equipped) are fixed. Like lifting dead weight, while an good Olympic bar feels alive and with a slight spring to it. Nothing wrong with an exercise bar for working out with, most people do. But you can add 10 to 20 lbs more to a exercise (depending on the exercise) with an Olympic bar.
All in all I would suggest an Olympic bar for BB curls. Just because of the smoother and better balanced bar. Feel like you are not fighting dead weight so much with a better flow to an exercise. Even an Olympic style EZ bar over a exercise EZ bar.
If wanting a different slant of BB curls (Olympic or exercise bar) grab in the center of the bar and do one arm curls standing. May take a little getting use to the balance, but calls into play a lot of supporting biceps and forearm muscles that are not usually hit by regular curls. Good Luck.

Big arm, dude.
thx
two best movements
straight olympic bar curls
straight bar preacher curls
-
Short bar. I don't see any advantage and the balance issues are distracting from focus on moving the weight. Not that hard to find and use a short olympic bar.
Straight bar for standing curls but for preachers they can be tough on the wrists, using a close grip on an E-Z curl works well on preachers not for standing.
-
The difference is insignificant. And a contraction is a contraction so the idea that one movement is better than another is personal and not universal.
-
The difference is insignificant.
Disagree. To me that's like saying dumbbells are the same as barbells. There's clearly a difference. Alot of arm work is done with shorter bars both now and in the past.
-
I think the regular barbell is fine as long as you get one that suits your hands right, I dont like using the really thick ones i prefer the thiner bars but if your gym dosent have different thickness bars then just get used to the fat ones.

Yeah man i hear ya, I CANT do straight bar curls of ANY kind, It prevents me from training upper body for a couple days at the LEAST.
I stick to preachers and alot of standing E-Z bar curls.
-
straight bar curls are superior to EZ-bar curls when it comes to bicep development BUT they are more rough on elbows and forearms compared to EZ-bar curls.
personally i prefer a small straight bar vs a thicker olympic bar, maybe because i have small hands.

Olympic bar, last set is 135 for 8 ;)
