Keep yourself well hydrated for starters.

pretty vague statement, what was the criteria he used to make that assesment? creatinine? urea? electrolytes? is your filtration rate low? your ADH high?
unless you know the particular issue then its impossible to help or possible dangerous. Do have any of the testing info?

I asked her to send me a copy, she told me I had protein and albumen in my urine, I believe. She has me on a statin drug and I havent been taking it. I am very well hydrated, exercise, but she told me not to take supplements. I take a few...nothing illegal.

did you take the test after lifting weights?
i will review the literature for you and review lab diagnostics to see if i can help. The statins are hard on the liver, possibly elevating albumin which is a transport protein. Let me get back to you as i honestly havent reviewed renal supplementation all that much.

Have you been trying to lower your cholesterol through dietary measures and exercise instead?

You mention not many vegetables and I don't see any whole grains, nor any mention of cardio. These are all part of the cholesterol equation. That, along with your genetic predispositon, age, sex, weight, race, other lifestyle components (ie: alcohol, smoking, etc.), all can play a role.
Regardless of whether your Dr. is a pill pusher, apparently there's enough evidence to take responsible action. This is nothing to mess around with. High cholesterol is one of the major risk factors for heart disease which can cause a heart attack or stroke.
Please educate yourself.

Princess can you explain how whole grains fit into the cholestrol equation?
-
the reason i ask if you took the test after weight training is because it is natural to find protien in your urine after training. Please do post your full test results if you would like some help, i am currently studying lab dianosis and differential diagnosis and could be of some assistance, even though my opinions would be layman. Any help i can offer, your welcome to. Before recommending anything i think its wise to see the test like you have stated.

Whole grains don't contain a magical nutrient that fights disease and improves health. It's the entire package~ ie: elements intact and working together.
Various nutrients, and fiber in whole grains play a role in regulating blood pressure and heart health. Based on study results, researchers say there is evidence that whole-grains, particularly oats, be part of a cholesterol reduction program. They also say more study is needed.
I'll admit, I went OT, but that was because he mentioned statins yet made no mention of trying to address that health issue.

proteinuria is very common in atheletes in general.. especially following very taxing lifting like squats etc.
in fact, many even have hematosis above normal; 6-10 range (where 5 is the max acceptable range)
then again asking people on the internet is the best way to go.

I wonder if whole grains help lower cholestrol, or if whole grains just dont negatively effect cholestrol (whole grains improve cholestrol when they are substitued for foods that negatively effect cholestrol)

lets not argue, Princess L is trying to help. I do 30-40 minutes of cardio a day. I eat oatmeal, fat free cottage cheese, lots of water, chicken, yogurt, drink fusion and water, I will eat some type of beans as well.
do supplements screw up my blood tests?
