if you have a very low bodyfat, can you still get diabetes?
I eat alot of sugar and carbs
700 grams a day of carbs
what can a person do to prevent diabetes?
-
no saturated fats no trans fats no sugars no processed/refined carbs.
as well as just plain simple portion control.
-
some have genetic predisposition to diabetes...i.e. family history: many relatives with diabetes and so on. risks are higher for these people, of course
in any case, limiting sugars is probably the only long-term preventive strategy
try to get more carbs from veg and rice than from glucose-like sugars....
keeping bf leves low would probably also be a good idea
most acquired diabetes come from long-term poor eating habits, so here is the clue.

yes, it makes sense, genetic pre disposition to insulin production disfuctionality
problem is I love my sweets :o
I have about 5% bodyfat so can a person with 5% bodyfat get diabetes, even though I know it's an insulin issue not a bodyfat issue
cuz most people who have diabetes are out of shape

This is a great book and a lot of the nutrition information is relevant to anybody who wants to get and stay in shape. The way I understand it, if you have the gene for diabetes, you have to be careful and postpone developing diabetes for as long as you possibly can. If you do not have the gene, family history, etc., then you can do all the wrong things and still not develop diabetes in your lifetime. Dr. usmokepole, feel free to elaborate on this. :)

no thats not what he said. for SOME PEOPLE that is true. just like some people can smok cigarrettes all their life and never get lung cancer.

yes they can...i have friend who recently discovered diebetes...long family histroy...he was very slim, but poor lifestyle: boozing, smoking, eating fast-food mainly...6 months after he found out he is actually looking anorexic now...really quite sad

you sound like you have little to no knowledge other then the name diabetes, why dont you do a bit of research if your concerned?
bodyfat has something to do with insulin and insulin resistance.

Best way is to exercise regularly, lose the spare tire and also stop eating carbs from stuff like soda, candy and store-bought cakes like twinkies and ring dings...plus run your ass off..do a lot of cardio to burn off the excess carbs and sugars in the bloodstream.....this way the sugars in the bloodstream don't stay there and damage the blood vessels and organs.

This is what I did when I was diagnosed with a pre-diabetic condition..meaning that my blood sugar was getting pretty high and I was heading towards getting diabetes if I didn't modify my diet and do more cardio which I have always hated...but when I did the above, my blood sugar levels dropped tremendously and I didn't have to begin using insulin or other medications...
