FBI Investigation Details Evel Knievel's Dark Side

MIAMI — Evel Knievel never denied his scrapes with the law — the late motorcycle daredevil often reveled in them. But even he objected to a 1970s FBI investigation of whether he was involved in a string of beatings.
Knievel, immortalized in the Smithsonian Institution as "America's Legendary Daredevil," donned red, white and blue for his death-defying stunts. He had a knack for outrageous yarns and claimed to have been a swindler, a card thief, a safe cracker and a holdup man.
His most well-known run-in with the law was a 1977 attack on movie studio executive Shelly Saltman, whom the daredevil beat with a baseball bat in the parking lot of 20th Century Fox.
Saltman promoted Knievel's infamous attempt to jump Idaho's Snake River Canyon and then wrote a book about the experience, angering Knievel by portraying him as "an alcoholic, a pill addict, an anti-Semite and an immoral person."
Knievel was sentenced to six months in jail and Saltman won a $12.75 million judgment, but never collected. Saltman did not return a phone message recently to discuss the FBI file.

Good for Evil. Didnt let people live is life. It's too short anyway. He had someone hold the guy down while he wiped him with a baseball. That clown messed up a promotion and cost him like $2M if I remember the story...as far as the reason.

wouldn't really surprise me, I saw a special on him recently... he was one hard guy, very gruff and abrasive even towards his own family members.
and the concept of him self medicating doesn't seem far out at all.... think of all the injuries over the years and age taking its toll, the man was probably in constant physical agony.

Oh, the irony. Dude himself should have been beaten with a bat for thinking he could act. His Viva Kneivel flick is one of the all time bad movies. His acting makes Charlton Heston's appear nuanced by comparison. :o

Evel was a badass, and he DID know how to drink!! He and his son are total Butte, MT boys. Every July there's an insane party in Butte called 'Evel Knievel Days', naturally. Evel's son still comes back for it and normally does a few jumps or stunts. And Evel's daughter? heh....wow.....HOT! no lie. Still lives there. Kinda crazy, but that's to be expected. My roommate's bf used to date her, and I've got pics of my friends with her from this summer's most recent Evel Days.
Butte, MT is a big festering pit of drunken Irish bastards. And one of the greatest towns to party in. And most likely get arrested.

Evil was lucky to live after badmouthing and thinking he was bigger then the Hells Angels...There were rumors that Evil had to do some jumps out in the middle of no where where Hell's Angel camps were...They were going to kill his family etc if he didn't...

Lol, I remember hearing that guy on the Adam Carolla radio show a while back.
He's a real hard as nails old timer. Adam said something like, "I would be scared to do the things you do..."
Evel snarled, "that's because YOU'VE GOT NO GUTS!" ;D
