Book Description
"This is not a book about the decline of America, but rather about the rise of everyone else." So begins Fareed Zakaria's important new work on the era we are now entering. Following on the success of his best-selling The Future of Freedom, Zakaria describes with equal prescience a world in which the United States will no longer dominate the global economy, orchestrate geopolitics, or overwhelm cultures. He sees the "rise of the rest"—the growth of countries like China, India, Brazil, Russia, and many others—as the great story of our time, and one that will reshape the world. The tallest buildings, biggest dams, largest-selling movies, and most advanced cell phones are all being built outside the United States. This economic growth is producing political confidence, national pride, and potentially international problems. How should the United States understand and thrive in this rapidly changing international climate? What does it mean to live in a truly global era? Zakaria answers these questions with his customary lucidity, insight, and imagination.
These are all matters a president should verse himself on. this book is not a rally for the fall of America, hope that helps.

This author is actully very intelligent. I always love listening to his opinion on the various shows. He's pretty respected.

No gimmick account. Look at my register date. Lurked for a couple of years before registering, way back on the old-thread-type forum.

Republicans are ignorant.
There is obviously a reason why he was caught in public with this book. Doubt its an accident. Every photo is a photo op. Right? Its interesting how republicans interpret it.
It funny how republicans are outraged by this. When both parties foreign policy favored globalization. This stuff was implemented a long time ago.

are they actually making a big deal about this? If so, yea, they either fell for a trap or are trapping themselves.

I disagree with him on some stuff, but just listen to this guy before you condemn him as a radical or something.

I actually consider myself a RINO who believes the GOP is selling us down the river as fast as the Dems. We have a state measure on our ballot to allow "No Political Affiliation" (as opposed to Independent, which IS a political party) to vote for any candidate in our preliminaries. If it passes I will no longer be a Repubican.
Let's see what, if anything, can be accomplished to turn things around with Ron Paul's Campaign For Liberty.

I understand on some levels. There are a lot of Dems and Republicans I would like to see gone. A while ago I pleaded on the board for people to turn over dems and republican where ever possible in the primaries. I'm not happy with what's going on in both parties, but I have much bigger problems with the republican party hands down. For the most part I like Obama. I do have some issues but most of what I have issue with is stuff he's said in the middle this general election and I'm a firm believer that the worst thing you can do is judge someone on what they said in the general. It's better to weigh it heavily with what the said before running. sorry, I kind of skipped around in this reply :D

I agree but i think this is somewhat of the problem, b/c the candidates are made to say one thing and then change their stance a few months later. If they where just honest about shit upfront i think it would be a lot better which is why i think third party candidates have the success they do b/c they dont necessarily have to pander to any specific party they can have dem/rep stance on any issue.
I think our political process needs a good amount of work as sad as that is i would respect a former drug user, adulterer, etc that came out and was honest and open about it before it was discovered than a person who had less dirt but tried to hide it

they don't like him in general, this type of thing just adds more fuel to the fire. So I wouldn't say they are outraged hehe :D
Its the way it will be spun.

but by far, you'll get a better sence of what kind of a candidate by their positions and decisions before they run.

It could backfire on this one. A lot of people know this author pretty well.

Being liberal is good not bad.

absolutely, but like i said b/c they will undoubtedly change positions to pander to voters they will get slandered either way when they make a decision on a subject.

not uncommon for what a candidate says in the general not to happen so it's not like we can lock down position changes from the general as absolutes.
