Title: Holyfield to fight for title, AGAIN?!?
Post by: Dball on October 11, 2008, 09:04:36 AM
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - Evander Holyfield has been offered a fight with WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev in December.

Holyfield, a former heavyweight champ who turns 46 this month, has not fought since losing a unanimous decision a year ago to then-WBO champion Sultan Ibragimov.

"Yes, we are in negotiations with Evander Holyfield," Sauerland Event managing director Chris Meyer said Thursday. "We have made him an offer, but nothing has been signed yet."

Should the fight happen, it likely will be staged in either Switzerland or Germany, he said.

The 7-foot, 300-pound Valuev (49-1, 34 KOs) won an unanimous decision over John Ruiz in August to regain the WBA title.

A four-time heavyweight champion, Holyfield could become the oldest fighter to win the crown if the fight goes ahead.

A report out yesterday by ESPN indicated that Evander Holyfield was in negotiations to fight Nikolai Valuev. Further reports in the media have reported a fight between the two heavyweights was close to being finalized for December 20th. However, due to some excellent reporting by Alexey Potapov for FightNews, it seems there is no truth behind the reports.

Nikolai Valuev tells Potapov of FightNews: "In general there is an arrangement to fight against Kali Meehan and

this fight will take place on December 6th. I'm preparing for this fight. Today I learn that a fight against Holyfield is planned for December 20th. You want me to fight again in two weeks? It's totally ludicrous."

Potapov also quoted Valuev's manager, Boris Demitrov. Demitrov stated: "I know nothing about a fight between Nikolai and Holyfield. I talked today with Don King, even he knows nothing about it. Most likely it's an invention

The monster with a head the size of a VW would kill Holyfield. That guy is huge, some kind of freak! No one is close to his size and I pray for Holyfields well being that this doesn't happen, the man is to old to get hit by that BUS!
