IMO it was that of the year 1995.. Wonderful linup and all the top guys came in good shape..
-
For me, either 68 or 71.
Both had huge line-ups with fierce competition, went down to the wire...

Who came 2nd after Sergio in 1968??..

Sergio in 68, and Arnold in 71 "won" the O unopposed...
-
Seriously though, 95 or 96. 97 & especially 98, things took a turn for the worse, IMO.

1988

has to be 2005 because it was Ronnies 8th win and the speech by him was great and inspiring.
-
1972.
4 Mr.O winners in top six.
-
The 2021 contest should be good. Asschaotic will have gained another 2 lbs. of muscle to make him the tallest and skinniest competitor to win Mr. O
-
1980 Mr. Olympia. So much drama going on at that show. ;D

Ditto.....99 was awesome indeed. I like 98 though. Many showed up in great shape and everyone got the surprise of their life...Ronnie Coleman

72, 99, 98 and 95

1999 was the best top 3 of all time, hands down. Any one of those physiques could have won the Olympia going away this year. In fact, the top 5 at the Olympia was better than anything we saw onstage this year.

Isn't it strange that only one guy mentioned one of Lee Haney's victories :D

Well, that's not that strange 'cause Haney, as great as he was, faced weaker competition than Arnold, Yates and Coleman for most of his career. A lot of aging competitors like Callendar, Beckles, Platz,...And guys who, although good, didn't have the O calibar like Makkawy, Wilkosz,.... He had to wait for Gaspari and specially Labrada to give him a tough time and that's it (Remember that Robby Robinson made a comeback and finished 5th in 87).

Agree with you but don't forget he faced Dorian in 91.. But Tom Platz was not old in the 80s, he was born in 1955 :)..
-
Yeah, but Platz peaked early and then never showed up as good as in 81. Not exactly your most consistent Bber. To a lesser extent, same for Gaspari who peaked ultra early and then quicly faded after 4 or 5 years while he was still very young. And yes, Haney faced Dorian and I think somehow he got the message that the standards were about to change and he was not willing to play that game (though I think he could have). The 80's were a transitional decade for Bbing. Still, some great physiques there to witness like DeMey, Paris, Labrada,....But there's always been a difference between physiques that were pleasing to the eye and the physiques made to win contests. Haney was a good compromise somehow but the '90s were to be much more competitive even if you're not mass monster fan (I know I'm not).
