A poll by the Military Times newspaper group suggests that there is overwhelming support for John McCain among U.S. troops in every branch of the armed forces by a nearly 3-1 margin.
According to the poll, 68 percent of active-duty and retired servicemen and women support McCain, while 23 percent support Barack Obama. The numbers are nearly identical among officers and enlisted troops.

The Military Times, which publishes the Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times, polled 80,000 subscribers from Sept 22 to Sept. 29. The non-scientific survey gathered 4,300 respondents -- all of them registered and eligible to vote.
A racial divide was immediately evident among the respondents. Nearly eight in 10 black servicemembers chose Obama, while McCain captured 76 percent of white voters and 63 percent of Hispanic voters.
Click here to see more on this story from FOX News.
Numbers among men and women respondents were also visibly different. Men overwhelmingly said they would vote for McCain, 70 percent to 22 percent. But among women the margin was much closer: 53 percent support McCain, while 36 percent support Obama.
U.S. troops also said in the poll that they prefer McCain to handle the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- 74 percent said McCain would perform better, while just 19 percent said Obama would.
Four years ago the Iraq War was the single most important issue on which the military voted. But the war now ranks third in importance to these voters. The most important issue among the respondents was character (42 percent), followed by the economy (25 percent) and the Iraq War (16 percent).
There was a racial divide on these issues, as well. Black servicemembers said the economy was the No. 1 issue that affected their vote, and white troops said character was paramount.
The Military Times offered certain caveats for its poll, which was open only to its 80,000 subscribers. Responses were entirely voluntary and were not focused on a representative sample of the public, as scientific polls are. The troops polled were also somewhat older than average enlisted servicemembers and included more officers than is representative of the military as a whole.
Yet judging by the numbers, it appears that the Democratic party has not made many inroads into the traditionally Republican military.

68% of them support mccain and his 'stay in iraq' strategy.
That means 32% of them do not.
Looks like 1 out of 3 troops in iraq wants to get his ass home.

That means 47% want Obama to lose.
Your post doesn't mean anything. If the service member didn't want to be where they are, they should not have joined. I am sure all service members would like to be home and not in Iraq, but they signed on for service. I didn't want to serve in Just Cause back in 89 but I did it because I signed on the dotted line.

It's time to end this elective, piece of shit war, Joe.
This was a voluntary survey to those subscribed to this publication (older, lifers who are stationary and not in the field).
And 1 in 3 of them was willing to put their name on something saying they are tired of this piece of shit war.
If a third of lifer readers will admit it, I'm betting the support among the kids getting shot at in baghdad is a lot less.
Do you even know what the war is about anymore, Joe?
Saddam is dead, they have their own govt. Their leaders and population have both said they want us out. They want to handle the terrorists, so they can be brutal and kill them fast. It's about military spending, Joe. $3billion a week goes to military private firms. That's what this war is about joe. Borrowing $ from China in our name to feed to corporations. That's it. Not freedom, not democracy, not even oil. Iraq told us to piss off, no bases, and they sold the oil drilling to China.
We're there for sustained spending. I hope you realize that.

It's about our 'way of life', or sustaining US corporate influence overseas. The business of war. We have 800 bases overseas, China is next with 80. We spend more on military spending that the next 22 natinos COMBINED. War is big busienss.

Senator John McCain has pulled slightly ahead of Senator Barack Obama in campaign contributions from military donors. But what set Mr. McCain over the top were donations that came from people working for the Department of Defense.
When it comes to the uniformed military, Mr. Obama is still ahead.
The Center for Responsive Politics, which analyzes campaign finance data, reports that a surge of donations for Mr. McCain in the final months he was able to accept campaign contributions moved him into the lead. By the end of August, Mr. McCain received $461,350 from military donors to $450,950 for Mr. Obama.
One of the interesting trends of the election was that anti-war candidates, not only Mr. Obama but also Ron Paul, were getting more support from the uniformed military than hawkish Mr. McCain. That remains the case. Mr. Obama received $340,400 from members of the uniformed service branches compared to $321,500 for Mr. McCain. Mr. Paul had taken in $213,000 from uniformed service members.
The report also shows that Mr. Obama also is ahead of Mr. McCain in military donors with overseas addresses, both those working for the Department of Defense as well as members of the uniformed services. A total of $74,650 came in for Mr. Obama from those posted overseas to $16,600 for Mr. McCain.
Mr. McCain, who served in the military for many years and was a Vietnam P.O.W., is wellknown for his tussles in Congress with the Pentagon over cost overruns on weapon systems. But the Department of Defense is among his top twenty donors. And, as a Navy man, Mr. McCain got support from donors in the Army, which also made Mr. McCain’s top twenty list of donors.
No group of military donors appeared among Mr. Obama’s top twenty. But that was because the amounts that Mr. Obama raised are so large that the military donations, as a group, were not large enough to make his list.

How long were you a 'troop'?
Which branch?
8 years, U.S Army.
I knew many service members from other branches that were top notch. Most of the ones that were not so sharp were non-intelligent getting fazed out. Most of the higher up Non-Commissioned officers were in the Army because sometime in the 70's and early 80's, the judge told them to go to the Army or go to Jail. They didn't want to the latter, so they joined the Army. Those days were pretty much over when I joined.

Exactly thanks for supporting my post. What does that tell you about our troops and defense. What do you think keeps our borders safe and not have any wars fought here. Border Officers keep our borders safe. It is illegal according to American Law for military personnel to take on civilian police action unless directed by the President, Governor in a time of crisis or by Congress.

The problem in this day and age is the Border Officers are powerless in shooting gang members and drug dealers coming across. We should do what Ted Nugent wants to do. If someone comes across to do harm to American Citizens, we have every right to shoot them. We also, need to finish the Border fence and quit pussy footing around with it.

Troops fight for our economic way of life.
We live richer because they can twist arms all over the world.
But we have a wide open border. Terrorists don't come in thru the border.
We war as a business because it's big business. Not for our safety. If they were worried about the borders, as you claim, we would have bases there. We do not.
Honestly, we had a president warn us about the influence of military companies. A guy by the name of Eisenhower. He said they planned on warring for business, a sustainable military machine for profit, not peace and prosperity. And he was right.
You're not a dumb guy, Keith. Surely you don't think we need tens of thousands of troops in Japan still, do you? ;)

Believe it or not, the standards have lowered since you left.
During my time (Navy), I had the opportunity to work for and with many men and women who were in the military for the purpose of having a comfortable and secure 'government job'.
Yes, some of our best and brightest are members of the armed forces, but they are far from the majority.

I suppose.....Its technically not misleading but would give the automatic impression that the military supports McCain more than Obama and that may be true.....
However, you won't know from a poll in the Military Times....if you wanted a somewhat more accurate poll, I would suggest THE MOST POPULAR MILITARY PUBLICATION which is Stars and Stripes.
Stars and Stripes is the only military paper I wouldn't wipe my ass on if I ran out of toilet paper.

Illegal immigration has completely grinded to a halt.
Growth of illegal immigration population grinds to a halt

* Pew study on unauthorized immigration
Since 1990, the nation's population of illegal immigrants has increased every year. But a new report by an influential think tank says that the growth of the undocumented population has stopped — at the same time a new federal estimate indicates that the growth of California's undocumented population has also come to a sudden halt.
The report released Thursday by the Pew Hispanic Center in Washington, D.C., also found that the number of newly arriving illegal immigrants no longer outnumber the number of arriving legal immigrants, reversing a trend that lasted from 1998 through at least 2004.
Because illegal immigration is so hard to measure, the Pew study was unable to say whether the change is more the result of increasing numbers of people deciding to return to Mexico and other home countries, or fewer people deciding to immigrate illegally to the United States.
The study's authors do say, however, that the slowing economy, coupled with more aggressive enforcement of immigration laws and borders, are two possible reasons why the growth has stopped.
The Pew report is consistent with a new U.S. Department of Homeland Security report, as well as anecdotal evidence such as the reduced remittances workers are sending back to Mexico. The evidence suggests that the surge in illegal immigration in California and the rest of the nation during the 1990s and most of this decade has stopped.
"This was a population that had been
Advertisement
growing rapidly and substantially for the past 15 years, and the growth has essentially come to a halt in 2008," said Jeffrey S. Passel, the Pew Hispanic Center's senior demographer and co-author of the report.
As of March, an estimated 11.9 million illegal immigrants lived in the United States, the report said. That means that undocumented immigrants still make up 4 percent of the U.S. population, and there are 40 percent more of them than in 2000.
But the Pew report said the size of the unauthorized population appeared to have declined slightly since 2007. That finding, however, is inconclusive because the estimates are based on statistical sampling with a significant margin of error.
"It's possible that the down economy can be either discouraging people from staying or discouraging them from coming in," said D'Vera Cohn, senior writer for the Pew Research Center and the report's co-author. "It's possible that enforcement issues are making people feel less secure.'"
A second Pew report released Thursday found that the economic slowdown is hitting both legal and illegal immigrants hard. Median household income for non-citizen immigrants was down 7.3 percent from 2006 to 2007. Among citizen households, median income was up 1.3 percent.
"The current economic slowdown, which one can trace to the end of the housing boom in late 2006, is taking a much greater toll on non-citizen immigrants" than on U.S. citizens, said Rakesh Kochhar, associate research director for the Pew Hispanic Center.
In California, the illegal population isn't growing either. The homeland security report estimated that California had 2.8 million illegal immigrants in January 2007, nearly the same population the agency estimated for January 2006. The federal report pegged the nation's illegal population at 11.8 million people in January 2007 — roughly consistent with the Pew estimates.
In the Bay Area, local immigrant rights groups say they haven't detected a drop in the number of undocumented immigrants. But other evidence suggests there could be a state or national drop. The Bank of Mexico reported this week that Mexicans living in the United States sent home 12 percent less money in August 2008 than they had the previous August. The $300 million drop was the largest percentage decline on record since the central bank began tracking remittances in the late 1990s.
And newly released 2007 Census information suggests the illegal population could be dropping in other parts of California. The foreign-born population — the Pew report estimated that 30 percent of the nation's foreign-born population is undocumented — declined in more than a dozen California counties from 2006 to 2007, although not in Santa Clara County.
The biggest drops were in San Diego and Imperial County, the two California counties that border Mexico.
And while California still has more illegal immigrants than any other state, its share of the nation's undocumented population is dropping — from 30 percent of the nation's total in 2000 to 24 percent in 2007 — as immigrants spread out across the country, according to the homeland security report.
The Pew report also found that:
# Four of five illegal immigrants are from Latin American countries, with about 59 percent from Mexico. Twelve percent are from Asia.
# About 40 percent of the nation's illegal immigrants — or 5.3 million people —have arrived since the decade began.

It's the presence we have around the world that makes it difficult or impossible for the countries that don't like us to attack combined with our troops we have here. If we took out every military base we have around the world and solely had military bases here do you think we could defend our country better. Cause I sure think stopping or preventing attack on the US abroad is alot better than sitting back and letting them come at us first.

I have a friend who was in the Israeli army and he laughs at them

this is how Afghanistan beat Russia
rocks and slingshots vs the most powerful military in the world
in the end it's all about whose purpose is better
Afghanistan had a lot of money & such from the US.

agenda of the guys who want to rule the world and have a one world government and take over all the oil in the world
Are you talking about our government or are you talking about the Islamic Extremist that want to take over the world? I ask this because I would certainly sign up again if I knew Islamic Extremist were going to try and take over our country as we know it, even if it not the best of times now.
you watch too much TV ::)
again this is not a war on "islamic extremists"
this is a war on oil
maybe they wouldn't be so "extremist" if you didn't invade all muslim countries
hope this helps !

Click here to see the raw data.

FOX news post, once again, its not true.
I thought FOX was the most credible & balanced news organization out there, ::) Just ask them they'll tell you.

Not many getbiggers will understand this.
As we are mostly American here. Mars can speak very strongly but he makes many valid points. Look at the history of my region - we've been bombed, killed, occupied many times over the last 80 years - all by one single nation :-\
And people wonder why Obama is so supported worldwide, not everyone wants death and destruction all over the world, wars waged, nations invaded and people killed and flames of hatred simply fanned way higher.
you watch too much TV ::)
again this is not a war on "islamic extremists"
this is a war on oil
maybe they wouldn't be so "extremist" if you didn't invade all muslim countries

Don't be silly >:(
I am sure all the people who had their families killed just love the troops, they have zero reason to be mad that a foreign nation invaded them and occupied them for years killing folks, it's nice ::)
Yes and we count on them to protect us and to allow us to post on Getbig without having to worry about getting shot or bombed.
"We" do?
Speak for yourself, as I don't.
-
The only people who reads the Military Times is mostly elderly white people or almost retired military personnel...mostly conservative. I never read it when I was serving and most soldiers in their 20's and 30's are reading Playboy or Penthouse....
Sorry Coach....doesn't really mean anything
That's not true. The Army Times is distributed on military installations to active duty soldiers.
Also, the readership is irrelevant to the poll numbers. They didn't just poll people who read the publication.
-

they bomb a wedding and kill every member of a guy's family....wtf do they expect him to do?
enjoy the american goodness?

Joes a CHICKENHAWK... Too Chicken to get in the war, hawk now thats hes too old...

Joes a CHICKENHAWK... Too Chicken to get in the war, hawk now thats hes too old...
I wonder why Joe is such a republican ass kisser
is he from texas? ;D
or a die hard christian?
is he a racist also?

We haven't fought a war defending our soil since 1812.
All wars since then have been for overseas interests. Hope the helps.
It's about our 'way of life', or sustaining US corporate influence overseas. The business of war. We have 800 bases overseas, China is next with 80. We spend more on military spending that the next 22 natinos COMBINED. War is big busienss.
Who is the last Iraqi you had to cap on your front lawn?
Whats about WWII after Pearle HArbor?

believe me, if there was something that I'd risk my life for and die I'd do it
If someone broke into my house with a knife I'd risk my life for my mom, dad, sisters, and my girlfriend who I love the most in the whole world
but do you think that the agenda of the guys who want to rule the world and have a one world government and take over all the oil in the world is a good reason to put your life on the line for and DIE for?
::)
you still at home with your parents?
hahahahha

that is funny considering I'm 19 years old :D ::)

Umm, most of the people they kill are other Muslims. They're no different than us. They want power and control over those areas as well, they just mask it under the notion of fighting for a religion.
If this wasn't the case, they wouldn't spend the majority of their time blowing up women and children.
This is what cracks me up. You clowns give free passes to Al Qaeda and Co. just because they happen to be of the same religion, when they're no different, and in-fact much worse, than the big mean Americans.
-
muslims kill muslims.....we know ::)
don't christians kill other christians? how about the England Ireland wars back in the day?
news flash smart guy
Al Qaeda was founded and funded by the CIA and Osama Bin Laden is a CIA agent named Tim Osman
again.........put down the fucking TV remote and think for youself
hope this helps
Lol, and there's the typical retard mode of attack. Reference Christian wars from hundreds of years ago. Brilliant, you proved your point beyond a doubt! Because England (I'm not even English) decided to fight a war with Ireland 500 years ago makes it ok for Muslims to do the same thing. Love it! Do me a favor and STFU. More regurgitated bullshit. ::)
I could reference any number of Muslim terrorist groups that specialize in killing foreign Muslim women and children, not just Al Qaeda.
-
lets face it
US soldiers are not real soldiers
I have a friend who was in the Israeli army and he laughs at them
he says "hizbullah has soldiers, US troops....they are not soldiers, they are economic dependents"
couldn't have said it better myself
Being a soldier means fighting for a belief that you have and for that you would die
this is how Afghanistan defeated Russia and broke it's empire into pieces
BRAVERY, BELIEF, something people would die for
Didn't Hezbollah kick the shit out of those Israeli soldiers a few years ago?
I'd pay money to watch the ass kicking you'd take if you said this face-to-face to U.S. Marines or Soldiers.
-

Lol. Wasn't it Israel flattened most of Lebanon but the fact that Hezbollah hides among civilians and has no problems using them as human shields allowed for them to claim victory after several hundred people died from their games?
How are US soldiers not real soldiers? "Your friend" says they aren't. Hilarious. It's good that you speak for ALL US soldiers, though. I'm sure they'd love to hear you tell them that. ::)

No friend of mine, BF.
But I won't argue with the cowardly tactics Durkabollah employs because you're right.
That said, the Israeli military didn't dominate the way I expected them to.

In all honesty, how could they dominate? There isn't really much you can do when at the first sign of conflict, Hezbollah consistently disappears into the civilian population to wait it out. I mean, they could take the Muslim approach and kill everyone, but I like to think they're beyond that.
you completely fucking skipped this

It doesn't help at all. AQ is not the only terrorist organization in the world. HOPE THIS HELPS, dipshit. Thanks for ignoring my points, though.

You can't when you play by their rules.
Anyhoo, my remark was in response to the asshat's friend in the Israeli army that said American soldiers were not real soldiers.

so you do know that they were funded by CIA and that Osama is a CIA agent and he won't be "caught" cuz they don't want him to
I thought the government only knew AQ ::) don't all americans?
what other organizations? everyone who defends their country against US reign of oil inquiry?
did you ever think that they consider YOU a terrorist?

Again, I'm not talking about Al Qaeda. They were an example. You focusing on them only proves that you can't refute my other points.
It's funny. All the people always voicing their support for terrorist organizations can never refute the number of innocent muslim women and children they kill.

ya you're real powerful
you shit your pants and didn't do shit after Russia invaded georgia went into it's capital and showed you what real power is
US military is so stretched that it can't even defend itself anymore
Hey dipshit....did u actually watch the idiots who invaded Georgia...did u watch the 30 year old tanks with 30 year old reactive armor...and their missed matched uniforms....riding on the tanks......in 40 different uniforms...while it took their air force days to bomb things that take us minutes...u go ahead and get back to me. Everybody else are a buncj of children compared to us. I watched Iraqi tank crews jump out of perfectly good tanks, knowing we'd be pounding their assed before we ever came in range of their soviet junk.

Lol. I really wonder where these people got the idea in their heads that the Russians have some kind of powerful army. Wasn't even two decades ago they were getting the shit kicked out of them by the Afghans and they were losing their control over hundreds of thousands of square miles of territory they controlled for 1/2 a century. Yes, they're really skurry! ::)

it's not the Russians, it's Afghanistan
you're not looking at the fact that you're getting your ass kicked in Afghanistan too
you always hear about Iraq but per troops you have there, the rate of death is much higher in Afghanistan than Iraq
no military power has ever been able to take over Afghanistan
look at it's history
they shit kicked the British Empire while they were controling the whole world ..and neighbours like India
it's the Afghan people, as long as they are alive their country won't be taken over
unlike the fat ass donut eating beer drinking football watching Americans they have a little things called Bravery and Love of their country
however......if there wasn't an enemy to deal with they would just kill themselves

I admire you man. I'm still 2 years from that age, and I don't know if I could ever enlist and go around the world, and I'm an obama supporter (and I read your not), but thanks for what you do to protect us.

I didn't even bother replying to the dipshit. But hey, his "friend" told him that American soldiers are pussies. Apparently hiding among civilians makes you a man in AXA's eyes.
