Most i've ever done is 275lbs. I'm a pussy compared to all the 405lb overhead pressers on getbig though   ;D

holy crap.  I've used 135.  I was scared to go any higher.  Don't want to tear up a rotator cuff.

I never see anyone doing this exercise for some reason.

Just over 150lbs (70kg) for 1 or 2 in the final set of a 5x5 pyramid.   :-[  Backed off it now though instead of banging up against failure every time.  Don't know a fresh max.

I just overhead press, maybe a little layback, not some super strict form heels together military press.

Are we talking free weight or machine?
Title: Re: Standard military presses - how much weight do you use?

I slap a couple 45's on an olympic bar and do a few sets of standing from the floor. I'll go heavier on dumbells though.

if its a smith I'll slap a couple 45's on each side for seated.

but the golds I worked out at had a machine I loved... eventually I just started with that and moved onto dumbells... abandoning the barbell press. way better contraction on the machine.

You're an absolute beast. :o  Mind if I PM you for some lifting advice?

I think the highest I have done with free weight is 135, with the machine it was 190.

Jealousy is a bitch

Nothing to do with jealousy, when someone is legitimately strong I always give props, this is obvious bullshit.

225 for 8 on standing MP would give you a bench of around 405.  ::)
Title: Re: Standard military presses - how much weight do you use?
Post by: ATHEIST on November 01, 2008, 04:21:48 AM
standing barbell would be 205
seated barbell free weights no back support is around 205 also
seated db no back support i think is around 75 lbs
seated db w/back support my best was the 110's for around 6, this is with the back support at 90 degrees

i do alot of power cleans to help. i consider this reasonably respectable but yet ive never flat benched more than 275.
incline bench i can do 305 for 5 tho. go figure.

Yea, except Cena has 50 pounds more muscle, doesn't have the brutal acne scars, and doesn't constantly have cocks prodding his sphincter like Candi. :-X

I don't practice the movement regularly.  The last time I did them I worked up to 225 lbs for 2 strict reps.  If I had pushed it I would have gotten 3-4.

Form makes a HUGE difference on these.  I was doing strict presses with no heave as in a push press and very little back lean.

I'm with you, 240....135 is good enough for me...I'm not taking any chances with that olympic bar packed with two 45's over my head....anyone saying they do more than about 225 i'm calling BS as well.....I'm talking natural and lifting the bar entirely on your own...

Most I've seen pressed in the gym was 315, seated for 6-8 reps.....the same guy benches 405 for reps, is yoked like a mfer and has the calves of a 12 year old girl. ;)

This is probably a misunderstanding, maybe he's still in the process of "working up" to it.

Him and his group work upper body 90% of the time and legs like once every other week or something.......really kind of sad.

same. the one dude at my gym aiming for the 275 raw bench record in the ADAU tosses 315 around seated and has hit 315 raw for 23 reps. doesn't do much by way of legs, granted.

as for me, i got 185 for 3 standing yesterday and there was a little leg drive in it. otherwise it's about 155 for sets of 6-ish. my shoulder press sucks.  :-\

and to the people trying to say a military press of X means a bench of Y, there's no way to know that. even seated i can't get much more than 205 for a few bad reps and my raw bench is 365. meanwhile a buddy of mine can use 225 on the push press with VERY little leg drive for a set of 6 and maxes at 340 benching.

I can rep 200lbs very easy. But generally stay a bit lighter and do sets very quickly or higher reps

90kg (198lbs) end workout

105kg (231lbs) end of workout...more a push press
